That is a nicely built 3rd gen but I do not understand that price tag. I would say it sounds like a husband that is trying to convince his wife he is trying to sell his Toy; just nobody wants to give fair value for it.

Have you not built one of these? Stuff adds up quick. I don't think he is that far off maybe just a tad high but somewhat in the ballpark.

When I was reading through his modifications, I felt like he should have done this to a Cruiser. Well... as I though, the seller is heading towards a 100 series cruiser.

That truck without mods will easily get $9000 in TX. So Another $6000 for the mods including front and rear ARB lockers (each diff is about $1500), swing out rear bumper with camping table is very reasonable.

None of that matters in the real world. Check out the Mecum auctions or Barret Jackson. Unless the car is "truly" a collectible, you'll see cars going for less than half of the total investment.

I've owned my FJ62 for almost 20 years, and I've spent well over 60K on it. Of course some mods were scrapped for new ones. But my point is I wouldn't expect to recoup that if I had to sell it, which I won't. In CA that vehicle might bring 7 or 8K unmodified. I'd say it could get 10K tops. Seen plenty of modified rigs not bring even that much.

Yeah; I have and am building another rig. I understand what new stuff cost but NOBODY will pay new prices for used parts. Soon as you bolt that ARB locker 3rd member you lost half the value of it. So take all those mods and hope to get half the value of them. I grew up around motorcycles and have seen guys pour truckloads of custom work into their pride and joy only to watch them walk away with a bucket of cash. That 4Runner is most likely a $9,000 to $12,000 4Runner if he can find a buyer with cash. I know my credit union will not loan more than 110% KBB so good luck getting a bank loan to buy that rig.

He can ask $15,000 all day long; but it is only worth what someone will pay. All of that said; I wish I could have found that rig a year ago when I was looking for a 3rd Gen. I would have offered him $10,000 in a heartbeat and been 100% serious.

Agreed. It's nice but I wouldn't spend $15k for one. People get all "well I have $10k in it" well sucks for you. Should've thought of that before wanting to sell. You may get 20-30% back on that aftermarket stuff

Needs a S/C if he wants to get anything close to 15k. If I was in the market I might pay 10k for the low miles/mods. Needs a 5 speed conversion.

Can someone explain to me the difference between a Cruiser and 4runner in terms of usage? Does it all come down to diesel so the Cruiser is better suited for round the world expeditions?

considering I just saw a stock 2000 at a dealer for 12 and it was gone a few days later

some people have that kind of cash in their accounts to play with, and that truck does have appeal for someone that does not want to take the time and energy to do it themselves

It would be a lot better for him if he started parting out all the bigger ticket items like suspension... but some people are just too lazy to part it all out...

This is also why I keep some of my stock parts... because I know if/when I am done with the truck, I wont get jack for all those after market parts.

That's what I was thinking. that's the perfect setup, wrong car.
