I am the original owner of a '92 4runner. From day one, I planned on keeping it 4ever. I have 181,000 miles on it, and it's still in beautiful condition inside and out.
Here's my dilema: I've started dropping fair amounts of money into it the last couple of years to keep up with non major repairs, but now I have been told that I have bad compression in one of the cylinders, and the thought is that I have a valve sticking. I have been given a general quote of $1,800-$2,000 to fix it, but they won't know what the real problem or the total cost until they get in there.
Question: Do I get the work done on the motor or should I start thinking about swapping for a stronger, newer generation motor.
I'm also curious to know what a new motor (with install) would cost, and what I can expect by doing so.
I would love to hear from anyone who has faced or knows anything about this kind of situation.
