bad exhaust smell

i just bought a 2005 t4r sr5 with 97,000 miles on ity and when back window is open egg smell comes in it also is all over the road when i change lanes it darts over i have 20 inch enkei xsp deep set wheels the tires are all diff sizes like 295 45r20 and a 285 50r20 thats front tires sizes back are 275 55r20s

Have the exhaust turned 45 degrees behind the rear wheel and it solves the problem. You should look into getting new tires all the same size. Probably dangerous having mix matched tires not to mention your ride will be horrible.

Search for Rotten Egg smell and you'll get all the info you'll ever need about this topic. As T4runner13 said...side exit that exhaust and you'll be good. mix matched tires = no bueno.

wtf on the tires?? that's the most ghetto thing I think I've read on this forum. btw, get used to the smell.

yea i no the tires a wack i got some toyo proxes ordered there 265 45r20s i hope it helps the ride someone told me to put high octane gas 93 and it want smell have yall tired that yet

High octane, low octane, mid octane......it will smell. The exhaust exiting the back gets sucked back up into the vehicle with the back window open. Midas charged me 80 bucks to put the 45 degree angle in it and that fixed the issue for me.

I am fairly certain it is because you are accelerating too quickly.

When you suddenly increase the revs, the fuel/air mix gets suddenly richer, flooding the exhaust with more hydrocarbons that can't be converted. The reaction creates Hydrogen Sulfide (the rotten egg smell) and the trailering effect brings it into the cabin.

^taken from another thread here on T4R. Basically you're abusing the gas pedal just a little bit too hard. Take your time and build up speed instead of accelerating up out of nowhere. However, changing the positioning can help with the smell though. I plan to change the positioning of my exhaust later on in the summer.

Jesus Johnnyboy. Punctuation. I know it's a new concept, but it's crucial.

Also, that smell is your catalytic converter. Get something like this:

and you won't smell that crap anymore. Also by putting in that 45 degree out, you get rid of the resonator, which makes the truck sound beastly once a magnaflow and cold air intake are installed.

If you don't want to put a 45 degree-out, breathe deep my friend. Get used to that wonderfully repulsive stench!

Also... You seriously believed that 93 octane would fix your problem? That won't get rid of the smell but it WILL do a great job of getting rid of the money in your wallet.
