Bad frame rot. Is it too bad?!

I used Eastwood rust and chassis paint. It was like a 3 step process. I haven't been very impressed with it so know I am going to paint my whole back end in Masterseries paint. Eastwood does have an internal frame coating which I sprayed in my frame rails. I would just take whatever rust coating your using and paint the inside of the rail that is exposed when you cut out the bad section. It is rusting from the inside-out.

I don't know man, don't mean to piss in your Cheerios but that looks pretty bad. Is that at the control arm mount? It looks like the control arm mount is pulling out of the frame. Can you take some wider pictures to help out it in perspective?

can definitely be repaired , i had the same problem [not as bad as that ] but rotted in the same place . previous owner hid it from me with epoxy and fresh under coat .
just cut out all the rot and box it out with 1/8 '' plate . rear control arm mount is thicker than the frame . i welded the plate to the control arm mount and extended the plate to were the frame is good . did it on the inside , outside and bottom of the frame on both sides of the frame .
i have torches and welders in my shop so it didnt cost me anything , but even if you had to pay a welding shop i can't see it being too bad , if i had to guess i would say 700 to 1000 bucks , have to pull the gas tank and exhaust system .
I've seen guys pull rare muscle cars out of woods with sections of the frame rotted away and missing and they repaired them , anything can be fixed .

we had a recall on tundras about the frame rusting out something sick. Im not sure if that same deal goes for Runners but i can ask when i get to work tomorrow. wouldnt hurt to ask your local toyota deal.
All i know is when i worked for Toyota in Jacksonville fl we had replaced a few frames under the recall. It was rare because most of the issues came from northern cars. hope this helps.

Awesome thanks man. I'll have to check that out. I was told to use por15 frame paint. Any thoughts or suggestions? I'm also gonna snap some more pics here in just a sec and post those up.

east wood makes a awesome product for the inside of the frame called "internal frame coating " . it comes with a 2 foot hose and nozzle to coat the inside of the frame , there is a video on eastwoods site of it .
but for the outside of the frame there is no better product then POR-15 , wire brush all the loose rust off , prep it with the "marine clean and metal prep" and paint on the por15 and hardens like steel .
i sent my rear diff out to get sandblaster and then painted it and the frame and every thing else with por 15 and it looks amazing , like a brand new truck .

Knowing what the underside of mine looks like, I'd be tempted to save yourself a bunch of manual labor and unload that thing. Buy another one from out West! My runner has 192K and lived in Colorado since new and the frame looks like new. Not even surface rusted. Gotta love that uber-low humidity!

control mount looks ok , just make sure you cut all the rusty material out .i used a grinder with a cutting wheel . definitely easy fix .
i used 1/8 '' plate , little bit thinker then the frame . ill post up pic if i can figure out how to ,if not pm me your email address and ill send you the pics of my repair .

Hey guys, long time lurker...
I'm dealing with the same issue now on my 2000 Limited. I plan on using the inner-frame spray, sanding down the flaky stuff, then doing the POR-15 treatment on the rest of the frame. Afterwards, I was planning on getting a welder to patch the holes...but after looking at the Eastwood website I found the epoxy. Could one not use the epoxy putty that they sell to patch up the holes in the frame as an alternative?
