when I fill up my 2016 it indicates 368 miles of distance. when it drops to 1/4 tank indicates 90 miles .. that is when I fill it then go on my driving .
you indicated 30 miles left to empty well that is too low damage in the tank so if you like doing the run till empty your gonna drop the tank ...

Yes, that was me :sobbing: We got around it without fully dropping the tank. You will need to access the top of tank from underneath the rear seats, so you can get to the sending unit. We avoided this step all together.

A horizontal calibration might help, but I am not entirely sure how much it will really compensate for...
As for dropping the fuel tank you might have to get at the connections/fuel lines from the passenger seat area before dropping the tank. It's been a bit since I did a 4Runner of any year for a fuel tank so I can't remember if it's easy to drop the tank an inch or two and snake your hand in there to undo everything or if you really do need to pop the access panel to get access. In that case I'd go with what the book says unless someone has a detailed write-up.

Problem solved!!!! I dropped the tank today and replaced the fuel level sensor. Before i changed it the guage said a little over 1/4 tank and 56 miles left. Hooked up the scan tool it show 29% left in the tank. Once i changed it the gauge went to a little less than an 1/8(never see the gas guage that low). The scan tool showed 16% full. Problem fixed, now i know the true fuel level. Thank you for everyones help!!! I took a bunch of pictures during the process and will be doing a write-up for everyone.
Did you do a recalibration after the replacement and where did you order the parts? Im having the same issue.

I got the part from the dealer. As far as I remember I didnt calibrate it because you cant. If I did it was with my scan tool. I know you can on the 4th gen with the trip buttons but the 5th gen is different.
