Bad paint job/coverup

Do any of you paint experts have any ballpark of how much this will cost to get repaired? It is over the driver side where the roof meets windshield. I had noticed it a while ago and forgot about it so I'd like to try to get it fixed unless it is ridiculously expensive.

going cheap might hurt...

I think this is one of those headaches that needs to be addressed by a reputable expert. Somebody that will be held accountable for a job well done or not (and keep at it until it is). With possible window removal (to get it done properly), paint matching and rust mitigation so that there's no issue in the future, I'd be surprised if it can be done for less than a grand. I've never been able to get body and paint work done properly for less than a grand even for a small area. Maybe I spent too much, but I never had an issue after the work was completed.
 
You were supposed to say it would cost around 250 and be done in a day. I was hoping there would be a body shop guy cruising the forum when I posted so I could at least have a ballpark to find out if I was getting hosed or not when I get it fixed. Maybe he/she will still show up. Thanks for your reply though

cost depends on where you live.

damage like that will cost a lot . windshield removed [glass guy] $200-300
then when the glass is removed the body shop can give you a better estimate. very common issue.. example >>>> windshield was replaced at some time when replaced they damaged the paint. now under the glass seal there are holes and more rust.

the metal will need be cleaned and treated. then epoxy primer , then being a red paint job a real PITA to match so you will need a very good painter to match it up.

my guess about $800 +/- $300

That's crazy. My LE got rust in same exact spot. Luckily (not) a tollbooth arm came down on my door/roof and had it all fixed at same time. She long gone now, ditched for TRD Pro.

I had rust there as well i had a windshield guy come out and he wouldn't put the new glass in. He removed the glass for me. And i wire wheeled all the rust welded up a couple small holes and had safelite put new glass in. It was a pain in the ass. But figure is worse then you think. And there is no way to know how bad till the windshield is out and you have to fix it. Sadly

Im shocked it happened to a 2013. There had to be damage there and it was either covered up or behind the trim. Get quotes. At least a 3 or 4 and figure high and low are BS

I'm not shocked. Mine was a 2010 and I noticed mine in sometime 2013, three years out as well.

So now there are 3 of us on his thread in the same spot...

Have you owned this vehicle since new?
 
I've had the truck for 2 years in Feb. I'm not happy about a unexpected cost like this, but it has to be fixed or it will just leak and ruin the truck. Time to get some quotes. Anyone up for a class action suit since we all have the same spot?:thumb::naughty:

is it just surface or is there a small hole? Original windscreen?

Toyota has a 5 year sheetmetal corrosion perforation warranty, take it to a dealer and let them tell you they won't fix it. then go home and rub salt in it for the next year until it becomes a hole then go back.
 
It is a certified used toyota so that might be a way to handle it. I gotta check my bumper to bumper warranty even though im sure they will have a out to not fix it.
 
How many times have we talked about this? That salt goes on the eggs when you have breakfast, not on the 4runner!

But seriously that is annoying. Could a pebble have hit that edge, nicked the paint, and led to the rust?
