So I got oil changed at the dealership since it was the first change since I got the vehicle. Now there's a horrible sound at the engine like a damn weed whacker. Can anyone cause this? Does the skidplate in the 4runner 4th gen come off/down for the oil change? I'm wondering if they left something loose that is vibrating and causing the ****ing awful sound. Otherwise I hope they didn't mess something up.

V6 or V8? When does the sound happen (all the time, under load, when in drive)?
Have you tried replicating the sound under the car?

Take it back to the dealership ASAP and have them find the issue, sounds like something is rubbing on a moving part, or something is loose.
Can't comment any futher since we don't know more about which engine, 2 wd , 4x4, etc.

Check the skid plate, I just took my new 06 into Toyota today for an inspection and they did not tighten my back right skid plate and I was experiencing that whizzing or quickly repetitious noise, tightened it up and no more noise. Hope that is the issue you have as well!

if the sound is occuring only in motion...then its likely a mechanical issue - skid plate.
if the sound is occuring while stationary, dont drive the car to the dealer!!!, turn off the engine, they probably forgot to add oil.
Sorry guys. Skid plate was ok. The guy left a ****ing oil bottle in the engine well. The dude at the dealership was like we dont use this brand of oil. Wtf you think i do? You think i put the ****ing oil bottle in my own engine well and drove it around? Some of these dealerships are odd.

That was the first thing I thought of. After 11 years and over 100k miles I finally left a bottle on my Tacoma a few months ago. Makes a god awful racket as the belt chews through the bottle. I'd inspect the belt but it's probably fine.

Many moons ago, I had my new 1993 Grand Cherokee serviced. The dealership was about 25 min away. Anyway, I get a phone call after I returned home about a power tool that may have been left in the engine bay. I hang up to investigate and sure enough, there was a cordless drill/ratchet/something sitting on top of the engine. I called and returned it. Luckily, it didn't fall out. Morons.

You should post up the name of the dealer so others can aviod going there.

I'm guessing that most dealerships let the least expeienced "tech" or beginner "tech" do the oil changes since most anyone with minimum mechanical experience should be able to do a oil change, but unfortunately it appears that they are very well supervised!!
It's mandatory IMHO after doing an oil change you run the engine up to operating temperature and then inspect under the hood, under the vehicle and the oil filter for any leaks which should turn up any left tools and other items not a part of or attached to the engine/vehicle!!!
I have never had anyone do my oil changes, and if I ever did I would do the inspection after they did the job!

I don't know man, I asked the service guy, he said the dude had been with them for > 2 years. So I don't know if they put the least experienced guy on lube duty, or if there's just a lube specialist oil change guy, or if the guy is so stupid that they only let him do oil changes.
I don't want to name&shame the dealership because the service guy looked young and seemed more perplexed than defensive as to why there would be some foreign oil quart bottle in my engine well, LOL. He said he would deal with it though.
I am miffed because my coolant is about two inches below the 'Full' line in the visible accessory tank though. I'm not sure why they didn't top that off if it was a true 'full service' oil change. The 4th gen's oil change isn't even that difficult so I don't know what is up.
Now I need to find out why I'm losing that much coolant, I filled it up 2 months ago to the F line I believe.

Does the dealer even use oil from a name brand plastic bottle?
Most private shops I've been to (and I assume dealers) buy and distribute oil by the 50g drum.
