My 2002 4Runner Ltd has developed a "knock" coming off a dead stop. doesn't happen at every dead stop start, but most of the time it occurs.
I've been advised my U-Joints may be going bad. To be clear of the issue- I would describe the situation as once I'm at a dead stop, then release the brakes I can feel an immediate "Clunk" sound, as if the drive shaft is engaging. the odd thing is, if I use my emergency brake to come to a stop (not using the front brakes) and once stopped, release the emergency brakes, there is no "knocking" sound/feeling.
Can U-Joints be fixed (self repair) without using a dealer/mechanic?
Thanks
