Badmeat’s 2015 Inferno TRD Pro

These are probably my two favorite from the trip

How close were you to tipping over? In a couple of those pics, it looks like you're almost dragging the side of your truck against the terrain.

I’m currently at a crossroads. I have an Engo SR10s sitting in my garage from my 2013 build. I do not want to go full front bumper, but I also don’t know that I want to cut up my stock bumper for a hybrid. Here are my thoughts:

SSO Hybrid
Pros:
-More protection
-Versatile recovery points
-Integrated LED mount
Cons:
-More expensive
-Cutting middle of front bumper

Pelfreybilt Hidden Winch Mount
Pros:
-Stock look
-Little cutting (replace front valance and hole is hidden)
-Inexpensive compared to bumper
Cons:
-No protection
-Have to use stock recovery points
-No integrated LED mount (Rago lower grille mounts could be purchased)

I’ve seen pics somewhere that people have mounted recovery shackles through the stock bumper on the lower valance but can’t find the thread or how-to ATM.

I'm probably going with the Pelfrybilt HWM to keep the stock look. You may want to look at the Undercover HWMS for the hidden mount with shackle tabs.

While that is a valid option, the cost is close to that of a hybrid bumper, so I don't think I would spend that kinda coin on a HWM.

I feel like I'm leaning more toward the hybrid bumper option [SSO or C4Fab]. With that said, I need to iron out a front suspension setup to handle the extra weight on the nose. I had a Toytec 3" 5100 lift on my 2013, which had a Budbuilt HWM and my 10k synthetic winch, and it rode well with 600# springs. I'm concerned that 600# springs wouldn't quite be enough for a hybrid + synthetic winch combo.

Fortunately, I have a brand new FJ TRD suspension kit in the garage [which comes with 1" lower spring perch over 4R TRD struts], so I could order some 16" 650# springs to pair with the front shocks and give 1-2" lift with the extra weight. But I don't want to over-extend the struts, so I'm also considering doing 14" 650# springs on my current stock TRD struts or on the FJ struts with a spacer, if needed to combat droop.

Decisions...decisions...

Today the 60” hi-lift, mounts, and Tred 1100 mounts arrived. I took a leap of faith on the mounts, as they only work with those specific traction boards, and I have the Amazon X-Bull boards. But after some research and some measurements I found online, I decided they were likely close enough to work. Fortunately I was correct. The X-bull mounting holes are maybe 1/4” off but they still work.

I have the locking knob for the Hi-Lift and the Tred mounts have eyelets on each post for locks. I have a lock on one of them, so if someone wants to go through the trouble, clearly they need them more than me.

Side note- I have a handle isolator on the way for the Hi-Lift, but for now, the bungee will suffice.

I’ve neglected this thread for a while, but I haven’t had much time or parts to install. Today the 285 Terra Grapplers got installed because Black Friday got me. Not bad for under $700 shipped.

I debated on a more aggressive tire, but I’ve been really happy with these in the 265 size so if it’s not broken, why fix it?

New forum look...aside from my attached images being broken, it looks nice.

Anywho, I'm currently underway upgrading the stock sound system. I went with some JBL Club 3.5" speakers in the dash (with bass blockers) and JBL Club 6x9 components in the front doors. I'm torn/debating on what to do with the rear doors, hatch speakers, and head unit. I plan to get the Scosche head unit surround and have it painted to match the stock black/flake color.

Thoughts are:
Speakers
-6.5" vs 5.25"
-component vs coaxial

Head unit
-Need apple carplay (prefer wireless)
-Need to keep steering wheel controls
-Need to keep backup camera
-Would like to be able to tap into the stock mic for calling

I'm not planning on running an amp, just whatever wattage the new head unit provides.

Anyone have any thoughts/suggestions/advice?

I use the Pioneer AVH-W4400NEX as my headunit that has Wireless CarPlay, and retained factory steering wheel controls, USB port, and backup cam using the Maestro iDatalink RR module and TO2 harness. Cool thing about the Maestro is that it also displays OBD-II provided data (RPM, speed, tire pressure, fuel level, etc.) and allows you to change vehicle settings similar to a Carista or Techstream device.

I have searched and not come up with any solutions to retain the factory mic, though, unfortunately. I ran the mic supplied with the headunit to the top of my driver side A pillar. I don't believe there is a way to retain the factory AUX port, either.

I really like the look of that headunit...very clean. I've read a little about the Maestro iDatalink and definitely think that's something I'd go with.

How's the quality on calls with the supplied mic?

EDIT: also looks like for about $690 shipped, I can get that setup on Crutchfield.

Does anyone know if with wireless CarPlay, you have to use the GPS antenna that comes with the aftermarket unit? I'm reading some conflicting information online.

Call quality is okay from what I'm told. Can get a bit loud on the other end if you've got the windows open or a bunch of stuff on the roof creating wind noise.

I tried to use the factory GPS antenna but it didn't fit in the GPS plug on the back of the headunit, so I'm just using the supplied antenna. I simply have it floating around in the dash behind the headunit though and haven't had any signal issues.

Doesn't sound too bad. Any idea on if the factory SiriusXM swaps over?

It does not, and I believe you will need an additional installed piece to get satellite radio working. I'm not exactly sure what it entails since I don't use it but shouldn't be difficult.
