Dust to Glory is a great video! I'd love to see the Baja race in person, but that will have to wait for another time. Have fun, Blue dog!

Its a good time for sure, baja is awesome, and what can you say for a 1000 mile race, fastest guy wins, man and machine, point a to point b, do what you have to do, zip ties, duct tape, here we go.
anyway, first day to Bufadora, regroup, and head out to race mile 350 to pre run to 700, then back again, and do it again. Hurricane has fowled up a lot of southern baja, but it should be mostly dry by race day. This will be the first excursion for the 4runner down south, and even then it may just stay in Bufadora so i can take one of the chase trucks that can pull a trailer in case of the machine no go any further type deal.
Anyway, if you get the chance, GO, it is a experience you will talk about with everyone you know for a long time. Viva baja and a good dog.

I would love to go! I haven't gone in at least 25 years! As a kid we went every year. Usually stopped in ensenada then on to san felipe where we viewed the race and tore down booby traps set by the locals. Crazy times!

They set out piles of debris, barbed wire, trees etc just to watch people crash, and throw **** at the drivers. One reason why WRC hates Mexico!

A lot of people may not know this, but beyond the "booby trap" stuff, this race actually shares OPEN PUBLIC ROADS in some areas! If you haven't seen "Dust to Glory", there's a rather hilarious part where the local cops actually stop the trophy trucks to give them tickets!! Mexico definitely has their own set of rules.

I have experienced a few booby traps in my day, but generally the info gets passed down via the 2 way radio and the weatherman. In 06 there was a area some rancher dug a trench across the road with a backhoe, then he flooded the area so you thought it was just a water crossing, first guy in a trophy truck got GOT, after that, everyone knows about by the time they get to it.
Did have some kids throw rocks at us one time, just adds to the excitement. It is the old west.

:D
Booby traps?

I'm actually skipping it this year and not even Tech'n. So many teams either couldn't put together a budget or contracts were pulled. As an example, last I looked Joe Bacal's in his own class, as-in, solo, all he has to do is finish and Lexus can say he "Won" his class, again. Same for BobD in Class8.

*Correction, looks like there's 2 more teams that actually confirmed, Joe's got 2 others in Stock Full. Maybe Teams got something put together last minute.

Us, we got a stack of useless steekers. :violin:

stock full is dead now days, i raced it for a few years and it was fun, Back when the Halls were racing there hummers. Class 8 is pretty dead no in Score as well, The rules have killed class 8, they are trophy trucks with frame rails now.

In class 8 the entire frame must be there, you can angle cut the front by 8"s without taking length off, and you can notch the frame above the axle up 6"s max, but yes, the rest of the truck is tube.
As far as Joe;s rig, it is fine, it just us not fast enough and you take a beating in stock full trucks due to the suspension limitations.
