Baja Rack Rear ladder coming soon!

Sup to everyone,

Well not sure if any of you guys know or knew but i''m excited to inform that Bajaracks.com (Sergio) just confirm final stage of protype and will be ready by the end of this may! I been it the market for a roof rack and rear ladder for a while and spoke with Sergio a year ago about developing a rear ladder for us 5th gen 4runners. So a year later he finally updated me and I will try to get some photos.

Interesting. Only a year to get something going. I just hope it's affordable. I hate mix matching things but maybe we can get a group buy for the first production run? I know I'm needing a rear ladder
 
Good idea on the group buy. I will ask him, but before asking for a discount on a group buy I will need to see if we can get enough people to confirm buying and since this thread only had one reply seems like 5th gen guys are not showing interest.

There is, well... was interest in a 5th Gen ladder from Bajarack. I think most people waited and just gave in and went with the Gobi ladder instead since Baja did not have one available nor any word (until just now) on when one would be made.

Aside from mismatched brands, there are some fitment issues with pairing a Gobi ladder with a Bajarack that people have had to learn to live with or modify their ladder or rack as a solution.

I for one am still crossing my fingers for the SPY Light rack (or retro module) and ladder for the 5th gen :)

FWIW I spoke with Sergio in January and he said the SPY light rack was in development and would be released in mid-Feb, but I haven't heard anything yet. A ladder would be a bonus.
 
yeah but everybody has there own taste and some don't wanna mix and match. personal i wouldn't mind baja with gobi ladder, but still wanna see this made. cause I like the baja roof rack little more than gobi,so kill two birds one stone kind of thing.

Yeah well look at it this way $1400.00 is a little high for a basket rack IMO

I'd pay $35 more for a ladder then hundreds more for a basket.
Plus if you go with a baja rack the ladder will work rather then hit like the Gobi does with it.
 
Good thing I ordered my Baja rack last week, the price just went up $45 bucks from $750 to$795. I will hold out for the Baja ladder.
 
I have a Whitson Metalworks rack... The only one so staying unique for a couple extra $ isn't the issue. Just want to make sure it's worth spending the extra money rather than just getting the gobi which has been out for some time and isn't having issues like the baja ladders for the Fjs...

Edit I mean the Fj guys saw some issues once they got their ladders
 
Reviving an old thread. Does anyone know why this didn't happen? Or did it and its just not on the website? I have noticed quite a few small things not on their website. I need a ladder.

Good question. I'd like to find another option to the Gobi, which appears to bolt and tape onto the back hatch door. It's a good location for the ladder, in the back, but it could bolt into the hinge at the top for better strength and bearing.

I just sent an email to Whitson Metalworks. He seems to have fallen of the map as far as productivity goes. His website says he's not taking any orders at this time while he develops new products. He has racks for 3rd and 4th gen T4Rs but not for the 5th. His racks look solid. It's fairly low profile for a rack with a mount for lights in the front.

I got an email back from Josh at Whitson Metalworks. He's trying to develop a roof top rack for the 5th generation T4R. He needs someone to park their 4Runner at his shop for a few days so he can work on the fit up.

His letter:
"Hi David,

Thanks very much for your interest in the racks. First, I'll be holed up working through a backlog of orders most of the summer, as well as trying to squeeze in some product development. I've been after a 5th gen donor for quite some time now and the stars just won't align for me. I'd need a truck for a few days at least and my area seems to be devoid of 4runner enthusiasts. It's still on my radar but I don't have any ideas on when I'd have an offering.

PS: If you're in or near NW Florida, can I borrow your ride??"

And when I asked Josh about a ladder design, his 2nd reply:
"Thanks David,
... I'm very eager to branch out into other products and the only way to do that is to put the racks on hold. It's a risky move but being single handed is tough. I can't stand the long lead times and am fortunate to have patient customers.
A ladder would certainly require some hands on time as well. Gobi has access to some forming equipment that I don't so I'd approach it from a different angle I'm sure. It's a tough part since idealy, the paint wouldn't be hurt.
Please keep me in the loop if you feel out for 5th Gen owners.
