Baja rack sag

I received my baja rack utility w/mesh a couple months ago.
I was happy with the quality and it seemed strong, but after hauling a couple of things (all under 100lbs) I notice it was sagging. To the point of the rack almost touching my roof.

Has anyone one else noticed this with their Baja rack?

I have emailed Baja rack and I know they will do what it takes to make things right but it annoys me after waiting for months for it to come......

I have a flat Bajarack without the mesh. I installed additional plastic chicken coop flooring so the family could walk, sit, sleep etc with ease. You might want to add this to better redistribute the weight. Here's a pic:

How long was a couple of months ago? I know for a FACT that Baja Rack went and redesigned the strength of their racks after many people complained with your exact problem "the rack sagging; even under small loads".

Overland journal (an adventure magazine) did a roof rack test with the 4 main roof rack brands, Baja Rack being one of them. They put in their cons column for the Baja rack that is sagged under load. Mario the owner of Baja Rack went straight to work after that publication and supposedly fixed this issue and this was according to the next publication of overland journal. Where Mario the owner stated clearly that the rack sagging issue had be addressed and fixed.

I know this is a pain and the last thing you want to do.... But I would CALL them and ask to speak to Mario (owner) and say that your rack has sagged way under the maximum recommended load. You have read that this had been an issue but was under the full impression the problem had been resolved before you placed your order. I would be amazed if he wouldnt swap it out free of charge. I know its a pain because you'll have to uninstall, create and ship your old rack back but it will be worth it in the long run as its onmly going to get worse before it gets better. Good luck!
 
Sig sense can you post a few more pictures of your roof rack from different angles please?

I want to see what that plastic addition looks like.

Also, I see the size is 2' x 4' and 1/2" thick. Do you think these are tough enough to be used as sand ladders if needed?

Hard to believe that little of weight bent or bowed it as I've had well over 300 lbs on mine and I have the flat mesh one too.Maybe it was sagging to begin with as Limamike had his replaced for bowing in the middle but it came that way.It bows a little with weight on it but goes right back to shape once the weight is off on mine.Are you sure the outside bolts are all real tight as they are slotted and if they are not tight enough they may not let it straighten back out.Try to loosen the bolts and retighten them. You do realize the 5th gen roof is not flat too as it bows up in the middle.

BajaRack has some of the best customer service in the business so talk to them if you think you have a problem . Sergio Murillo is the owner ,not Mario as posted above. John and Julian are also great guys to talk to over there.Met Sergio and Julian in person at last years FJ Summit and partied with John at the Lone Star Toyota Jamboree last Spring as they actually go to alot of events.

Here's 200+ lbs I carried on my roof for back talking from SLC to Grand Junction screaming the whole way and the rack held up great.:scared: .......jk!

I got the rack in early November and I too had read the article in overland magazine about them sagging, but I wasn't overly concerned because so many on the forum seemed happy with their own.
I snapped a few photos this afternoon and got to notice that there is a fair amount of surface rust.
No word from bajarack yet but I will call them tomorrow. So I will keep you posted on what they want to do with it.

Thats correct.... dyslexic moment there. Mario is the co-owner of Adventure Trailers, sorry. Crazy how the mind works somedays!

Ya, I agree that doesn't look good at all and not like mine and it's 2 1/2 years old. Send them pics and they'll ship you a new one.

Currently on a road trip away from my T4R, but will take pics in a few days. Never thought about using them as sand ladders. They flex a lot without support. Here's where I got the idea:

That's a good amount of sag there. Hopefully Baja will be able to replace that rack under warranty. That's not good.

Roof Sag

Anyone know if this issue was resolved? I know it has been more then three years but it doesn't seem a consensus was established over the issue.
 
Old thread but....

I'm currently waiting for a BR mesh utility sun roof cut out.
Assuming the sag has been corrected, what about the rust issues? Solved as well?
I'm thinking when mine arrives, before installation, hitting the whole rack (minus the bottoms of the attachment points) with rattle can spray on Rustoleum bedliner. Figure it can't hurt anything but gas mileage. Thoughts on that?
