balance between offroad and gas mileage

i didn't buy the 4runner for the mileage since it only has to be driven twice a week, but i also like to maximize the fuel economy. when i put on the BFG all terrians i saw a drop of 2-4 mpg with my normal driving versus a street tire. is there a happy medium to a decent off road tire that can drive in the snow and not effect the mileage too much?

I would look for a lighter weight P-rated tire. The BFG is a heavy tire. Bridgestone Revo ATs are not winter rated but do well in winter according to reviews. I would stick to the stock tire as well, again to save weight. Another option, if you want a taller tire is to go slightly narrower, like a 255/75R17 (if that fits your wheels). The reduced rolling resistance and reduced weight help compensate for the weight from added hight. The Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor is rated as a winter tire and is availble in a varity of P-rated sizes.

can the bridgestone revo still go off-road? when time permits i will venture out into the vegas desert to go shooting. i was thinking about the bfg rugged trail tires, but figured i would see what other options are out there. as for snow, i don't need it to be the perfect snow tire but i do ski and snowboard in utah which gets a good amount of snow.

Any tire can go offroad, it is just that some are better than others. I have done hundreds of miles off road in highway tires without issues. The Revo Dueller AT is an on-road/off-road tire. The BFG Rugged Trails are not a well reviewed tire, and I am not even sure it is considred an AT or on-road/off-road tire.

of course, & yes, & in my opinion, the revos are decent all around, & id take them anyday over the rugged trails!
