Ball Mount Ring

The Toyota supplied hitch ball mount on 03/04 4-runners come with a reduction ring for mounting different sized ball posts. Am I the only one who has had problems with the ring being taller than the mount? It makes it so that it is impossible to torque the ball nut down. I've even grinded the ring down a bit, but eventually the whole thing is loose again.

I just got a thick flat washer with an inner diameter hole which gave me enough clearance for the spacer. Works like a charm, and been using it for the last year, no problem.

A combination of a Vice and a reciprocating saw/jig saw, you can remove the extra length.

Bettter still, go to a trailer shop, buy a ball with a 1-1/4" shank and toss the mickey mouse adapter ring. If you can't find one locally, they're available online.

Had the same problem but it was not the ring causing it; I took the ring out and it did the same thing. The Toyota supplied hitch is thinner where the ball mount is and I ran out of the threads on the ball shaft; never was able to tighten to the hitch. As mentioned earlier, buy a big flat washer and plut it under the locking washer. No problems since.....
