Ball Mount

I have the factory class III hitch on my T4R and went to use the ball mount that used with my previous hitch and ran into a problem...the spare tire limits me from putting the ball mount in the hitch far enough to put the pin in...do I need to buy another ball mount? has anyone else had this problem? and yes, I did a search and found nothing. :)

My 4R came with the shorter mount - yes, I think you do need a Toyota factory part to fit with the spare in place. When I bought mine, there was a cardboard box in the cargo area with the ball mount. Maybe your dealer forgot it?

The one that came with my 2006 is very short, only 6 1/2" from pin to ball. I didn't have enough drop for me and trying to find one that short was tough. I finally did find one on the web and was shipped quickly but I checked their site today and it's no longer available. I would try the dealer, or check with a local trailer shop.

Check Napa, I found that their ball mounts will just fit my '03 with out hitting the spare. Also make sure the spare is seated as far forward on the frame as possible, you get a little more clearance. I use the factory ball mount for my boat, but needed a larger drop for my utility trailer. You could also cut short the ball mount shaft you already have to make it fit, just chamfer the edges and paint the cut to slow the rust.
