I'm waiting for the weather to warm up before I start installing this stuff. In the meantime, I will start designing a gauge pod for the 2 gauges. I plan on 3D printing it.

More to come...

Jeremy,

How much difference did this make? Was it a pain to program? Are you happy with the upgrade?

Thanks, and still one of the best 4runner's on here....

Ha, I wish I knew. I haven't installed any of it yet. :(

My oldest daughter is getting married in May, so I have been busy with other things lately. Hoping to get it all installed shortly after the wedding, and will post my thoughts on it.

Congrats! I can relate, my daughter (my youngest) is getting married this June. It's crazy how expensive everything is. It's really cutting into my 4runner 'fun' $...haha

I look forward to hearing your thoughts. I hope to install a SC on mine this fall after everything settles down...

Thanks

Congrats to you too! Looks like we are in the same boat. You are really going to enjoy the supercharger for sure.

Glad you asked. I just finished up a small project. It is a flag mount. Silver Lake State Park requires an orange recangular flag on the front of your vehicle that is at least 10 feet high. I chose to mount it to the center hoop of my front bumper, which is 4' high. Then I purchased a flag and 6' whip pole from AditudeGear.com.

I came up with a clamping system to mount the flag pole to the front bumper hoop. Grabbed some scrap angle iron, and started cutting and welding. Here are the parts I ended up with:

Its just 4 bolts clamping two "V" shaped pieces around the hoop tubing. I used some rubber strips to protect the hoop paint.

Flag pole just bolts on, and the final result:

Do you still go to Silver Lake? I cant wait for the dunes to open I take my black 3rd gen sr5 up all the time. Completly stock and kills it on test hill. Makes it up almost every time. I love the environment out there. I wanted to put a full long travel kit on my truck this summer but it would be a wiser investment to buy a house instead.... truck parts will always be around I guess. (Hopefully) love the build but loved it 10 times more when I saw silver lake state park. Rock on man.

I finally made it there this past September. So I’ve only been there once. My buddy’s Jeep kept breaking down so we kept getting delayed.

It was fun though. My supercharger really helped in getting up the hills. I don’t think I would have made it without it. Heavy truck with large tires doesn’t do well in the dunes.

Yeah its opening weekend this weekend but I've got to swap my trans and do the tundra brake upgrade as my caliper on passenger side is shot after a quarter million miles. Then I'll start going again. I air down to 8psi. Never broke the bead but that extra side grip should honestly keep you in 4 high. I've never used 4lo to get up test hill. At any rate though great rig and hope to see you out there for this years Toyota Takeover where theres Toyota rigs of all shapes and sizes.

I was aired down to about 10-11 psi. I had it in 4-low the entire time - More torque, and keeps the tranny cooler and happier.

I didn't know they had a Toyota Takeover event out there. That's really cool.
Do you have any more information about it? When is it?

I believe its August 19th but there is information on Facebook. I dont have a Facebook account so I cant look it up but I'm fairly certain it's the 19th. Last year there was a good 30 plus yotas out there and we were all doing laps together around the park. Lot of good people and good vibes! I'll have to try 4lo out while I'm down there next time!

Been working on a design for a dual gauge pod for the A-pillar. Going to put AEM boost and air/fuel ratio gauges in it. I started by taping the two gauges together with a small spacer between them. Held them up to the A-pillar to see how they could fit.

Got them to where I liked their positions. Then I designed and 3D printed the pod.

Test fit into the correct position:

Looks like its going to work just fine:

Now I just need to sand and paint it.

So I had a problem with my deck plate mod after installing my custom dual projector headlights. The rear of the new headlights extend much further back than the original headlights, due to the dual projectors. So I had very little space between the back of the projectors and the front of the air box, where the deck plate hole was. I literally could not install the deck plate cover due to the lack of space, but I still wanted to be able to close the opening when going through deep water/mud.

So I wanted to eliminate the deck plate mod entirely, and design a new closable opening in the front of the air box. I needed something that I could open and close easily within a very small space. I also didn’t want a separate piece (ie deck plate cover) to store in the truck somewhere, and possibly misplace. So this is the contraption I came up with:

Two 1/4” thick hard plastic plates with 3 openings in each of them. The rear plate will be epoxied into the front of the air box where the old deck plate was. The front plate can rotate to either open or close the openings. Here are all the individual parts:
uEdZ4kr.jpg

This is what the parts look like assembled together (without the air box). The two plates are held tightly together with the use of a spring, but still allow rotation. (I got the spring idea from how the wire spool mounts onto my Hobart welder.) The “L” shaped handle provides something to hold on to when rotating the front plate.
0OKZVPo.jpg

Showing the front plate in the almost fully open position:
ivFv8Uc.jpg

Showing the front plate in the fully closed position:
xBYpekj.jpg

I cut out the deckplate opening from the front of the air box, and epoxied the rear plate to the inside surface of the air box.
NuD1LU0.jpg

Then bolted the front plate to the rear plate with the spring, and labeled the open and closed positions on top of the air box. Open position:
mA3T1us.jpg

The underside of the “L” shaped handle hits the top of the air box in both the open and closed position. This positive stop feature makes it super easy to get the front plate into the correct positions. Closed position:
MuVPac5.jpg

The material for the plastic plates is ABS. It has very smooth slick surfaces that allow the two plates to rotate easily against each other, even though the spring is pressing them together very tightly. Also the tension between the plates can be adjusted by how far the nut is threaded onto the bolt and compressing the spring (just like my welder wire spool).

Now I have an opening in the front of the air box, that is super easy to open and close. As a future enhancement, I was thinking about setting up a small actuator to push/pull the handle into the open/closed positions. I could wire it to a switch inside the cab. Then I could open or close it at a moments notice, without even getting out of the truck and opening the hood to do it.

Clean work. I'm curious how waterproof that is compared to a deckplate. I image that water could get past the edges of the two plates. A thin gasket might help, but then again, if you have significant water pressure there, you probably have bigger problems.

This sat for over a month with no comments? This place is slowing down. Fantastic work as always. Looking forward to the final product as I'm a fan of keeping my oh-shit handle now that I'm on 37s.

Thanks. Yeah, I though about a gasket also, but I don't think it is necessary. The plates mate together really nice, so any water that might seep through would be very minimal. Its more to just stop water from splashing into the air box. I don't plan on sitting in deep water for long periods of time, so it shouldn't be an issue.

Thanks. I agree, not much activity on here anymore. I liked the idea of keeping the handle also, and to minimize the bulkiness of the gauge pod. I didn't want the gauges higher up on the A-pillar, because then they would be "right in my face" all the time.

37's - I can only dream!

Forums are slowing down as a whole. Even large forums like Tacoma World and Expo don't have nearly as much activity.

A lot of people are leaving due to the ads, and others because of new rules since many forums are being sold to larger companies. Others are just moving to Instagram or creating their own blog/websites.

I've always thought that especially once you get into the 3 gauge zone. My seat doesn't go far enough back to have a gauge that close.

No need to dream! You've got more BL than I do and you're already geared (i think?) just get sawzall out!

Its really a bummer. Used to be a really strong community. Heck 90% of my bachelor party was guys I met on the forums and I was in another guy's wedding.

I would agree.

Forums are a great resource, but many are just tired of all the bs that comes with them. Once you sellout, add pop-ups, more rules, membership fees, and so on. People just loose interest or find an alternative.

I wish this forum could go back to 3-4 years ago when things were good.
