If they have to be 65-68" why does trailgear list them at 58" for the 4runner? Would their 67" kit be the best solution?

i asked them that... what the told me is more of their 4runner stuff is directed towards the first gen 4runners. and yes your are correct, i think thats why more guys dont buy trail gear stuff for 3rd gens

I had my Savage Off-Road sliders installed on Friday and then put them to the test on Saturday. Roy Lewis and his brother are great to work with, he makes a quality product. I pounded them the first day I used them at the Rock Garden on Gold Mtn in Big Bear, CA and they are no worse for the wear! Go with Savage!!!

If you are talking about the Trail Gear, then you won't. You have to buy the 82-84 (or something like that) Toyota Pickup sliders to get the 67" ones. Really I would go with 4x if money isn't really tight. I really want the 4x, but I got my TG for $100, so I can't justify paying the extra $100 or so. I really like the kick out on the 4x.

Why would you make a low profile slider? how is that going to work. I guess a rock will only crush your door part way in then hit the slider.

yeah you wont,they dont have a kick out option, if thats what you want then trail gear is not for you. i dont like kick outs for the simple reason that they do exactly that, they will kick the back end of your rig out, and if you are in a tight trail or spot on the trail that could potentially kick the back of the other side of your rig into a big rock or tree and smash up the back of your truck... kick outs imo are not needed, your tire will do all the kicking out needed.

You should try wheeling with kick out sliders. they really make a difference. But what would I know. Its not like I go wheeling anyways

I have custom hybrid sliders. Square tube along the rocker and hrew for the kickout and centers. I couldn't be more satisfied with the way they look. I got them made to stick out a good portion to save me in tight situations and to serve as steps. They haven't failed me yet. In fact, my last wheeling trip I almost flopped over on my side. If it weren't for the slider I could have flopped. The whole passenger side of the truck was resting on a ridge on the slider. Im sure most of yall have seen the pic by now, it's also my sig pic, you can tell where it's sitting on. It was a close one for sure. If I were you I would get full length (67"-68") and ones that are made to stick out. If it's looks you're worried about, you can always plate the top of the sliders with diamond plate and it will look really good.

yeah you drive a mall crawler, we all know you just photoshopped that pic of your runner on those rocks... lol
ive seen a couple guys with kickouts and ive seen what they can do... for me ill just run the standard slider, i dont want to risk the kickout damaging the other side of my rig needlessly

I still really want to add sliders since I would feel a bit more confident and daring, I'll probably go with Stubbs and do bolt-on since you never know if you might need to remove them in the future plus bad welding can weaken the frame more than drilling will and my friend who would be doing the install said it's still better to have a breaking point at the bolt and maybe suffer a little body damage vs bending the frame but breaking even two let alone all four bolts or bending the frame isn't likely to happen.

As long as they stick out far enough from the body they are fine. They need to stick out a little past the widest part on the door for good protection.
Photoshop is magical. TOo bad i cant afford it and i dont know how to use it...
Those OL sliders are pricey. THey seem quite fancy. Im just gonna smash sliders up, i would hate to pay that much and then have them get all messed up

I think they are having issues with the plastic warping, based on the thread for those sliders. I think it is a brilliant idea. It is just a matter of getting the things to function like they are designed.
Sounds like they are work-shopping the idea of either using thicker plastic or replaceable metal. Thicker plastic means higher price. Replaceable metal means you will have to replace something down the line.
To me they were out of my price range. Not that they are too expensive, just more than I could afford. That is why I went with 4xinnovation DOM with kickout. Just my 2cents.

One thing that a lot of guys don't take into account is how much deflection takes place on the .120 wall sliders out there.
Your essentially dropping a 4700lb vehicle onto the sliders. IMHO, .120 wall is going to deflect enough to still hit the rocker panel you are trying to protect. I bet that Brian and J$$$ both hit their rocker a little when they land hard enough on those sliders.
We use .188 wall 2x2 for the legs and main body, but use .120 wall tubing for the outer tube. We don't have the same deflection issue at all. They are a stupid strong. We also use a subtle kickout on the back side. Ours are 64", and as you can see give you perfect coverage and if you ever run bigger tires, you have some room to grow.
