Bar Harbor, ME ??

Hi all, anyone here with experience vacationing at Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park in Maine?

I'd greatly appreciate any advise and hear about your experiences. We're considering a few days there during the summer and would love to hear about anyone's thoughts.

Seems like an incredibly beautiful place with lots to do with my wife and teenage sons.

I've been there before and did quite a bit of hiking in Acadia. We went in January, and snow showed in to the camp ground. Be prepared that the park is going to be crowded in the summer months. Bar Harbor is a great little town, and has great food! Make sure you check out Greddy's in the square. There was a pretty cool trail that we did called The Ladder Trail, and it has ladders built into it. You'll have a good time there.

Acadia is gorgeous. personally, i'm not into Bar Harbor, but it is where all the "stuff" is adjacent to the park. it's just awful tourist-y, IMHO. check out Northeast Harbor for a more quiet, authentic vibe.

there are lots of restaurants in downtown BH. for a little more adventure take a boat over to Cranberry Island and go to the Isleford Dock restaurant: Islesford Dock Restaurant - Cranberry Isles, ME | Yelp

it's a gorgeous landscape. your family will have a great time. bring bug spray!

Bar Harbor is a nice town. I can't recommend any hotels, but there are plenty of great places to eat. Check out Cadillac Mountain. It is a quick drive to the top for a spectacular view of the ocean and surrounding landscape. You can also hike or bike up the mountain if you are so inclined.

Bar Harbor is sort of a tourist trap though, if you go to the opposite side of the island, it is much less touristy and quieter.

don't drive to the top of cadillac mt. Hike up.
Ideally, early enough to watch the sun rise. It's the first piece of the US the sun hits every morning.
