Baseline

I have a 2008 4Runner Limited with 100,000 miles on it. I've owned it for 9 years, and all service has been done by either myself or the dealer. The timing belt and water pump were replaced at 90k miles. The rear axle seals have also been replaced recently.

I'd like to refresh the truck and was wondering if there is a list of Baseline items that new owners perform when they buy a used 4Runner. I have searched this site but cannot find a definitive full list. I previously owned a Land Cruiser and a forum I used back then had a really great list for baselining a truck.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Air filter
HCF removal
Cabin air filter
Spark Plugs
Clean MAF
Front, center, and rear diff fluid change
Brake fluid flush
Power steering fluid flush (make sure you use the specified ATF fluid)
Trans fluid (drain and fill is probably your safest option)
Make sure you have been/are greasing your zerk fittings regularly to avoid the thump

There is more but this just comes to mind now

Brake inspection - mainly the front calipers for seized pistons, I'm sure LCs also had brake piston issues since the caliper design is similar.

Air injection bypass - install it before it escalates to more expensive pump/valve issues.

The dealer already probably checked the radiator for leaks when they replaced the the t-belt and water pump.

Exhaust manifolds still ok? No leaks?

Thanks. The radiator is also new. I'll install the air injection bypass and check the exhaust manifolds.

Since you already follow the maintenance schedule, you could consider some of these "refresh" options:

Shocks, springs, and upper control arms.
All the bushings you can get to.
Body mounts.
Engine and transmission mounts.

Oh and since you're in NJ I hope you've been rinsing the ice-melt crap off it regularly.

Oh and since you're in NJ I hope you've been rinsing the ice-melt crap off it regularly.

I rinse it when I can. There is definitely some rust under there, but nothing that worries me yet. I have considered wire brushing it, priming/painting the bad spots, and perhaps doing fluid film to slow down the rust.
