I don't see how spraying a lil WD-40 could hurt. Theres always the BFH!!! LOL... Seriously tho sometimes my rims get hung up on the hub bolts, those 6 little nuts protrude a bit.

Yea man I was all up for it and ready. I took the passenger side off no problem...slid right off, but the driver side was just a pain in the a$$ no movement AT ALL! WD40 it is then, thanks, hopefully it comes off!

Another little trick when applying WD-40 is to tap whatever ur spraying with a hammer, wrench, as long as its metal, not hard, just firm. It sets off a micro-vibration that goes on for hours, allowing for better results. How true this is, idk, but this came from a WD-40 rep. and it seems to work for me.(maybe its all in my head, but wtf)

Well I finally fixed up my runner, and I must say it is amazing to drive and it feels great even with a cut off exhaust . I fixed the timing chain, oil pump, water pump, new battery, and pretty soon I will fix the side rust and finally fix the exhaust. Theres one problem though, my fuel gauge is not working. Anyone have any clue as to what the problem is and how I can fix it? Would dropping some seafoam in there take care of it? ANY help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance fellas!

Could be the sender frozen up, could be a busted wire, could be a bad gauge in the cluster. You're going to have to break out the multimeter and start chasing wires. When I first got my '86 I had a sticky fuel gauge, it came free after a couple rounds of fuel treatment. I couldn't tell you if the injector cleaner helped or it was gonna do that anyway though .

If you do have to replace it, dropping the tank is not a hugely difficult job, just run it down to empty first.

That was a long time ago, I've got no idea. I would think any injector cleaner would do it, if it's gonna work at all.

Finally fixed up the rust on my Runner. But it turns out mid exhaust I need to cut it off and change it, that's right before the Cat and downwards towards the tail pipe. Problem is I'm not really that mechanically inclined so I don't know what exactly to order online. What do I need aside from a Catalytic converter, muffler, and tail pipe? and I'm not looking for more power or anything. I'm just looking for a stock type system, and also it appears there is a leak of some sort from the left driver side back tire, I think its from the brakes because the brake fluid reservoir keeps getting empty and the brakes feel spongey. But I'm not sure, any ideas fellas? I appreciate any help!

Going topless for the first time and it feels good arty:... but for some reason there is a red light in the dash that says "Back door" any of yal ever get that when you take the top off? but anyways it looks awesome topless, heres some pics

Did you lock the tail gate? On mine if I have the window down, and the tail gate unlocked I get that indicator.

Yep, check to make sure your tailgate (back door) is closed all the way. The switch for the light is actuated thru the driver side latch on the gate. If you closed it and the light is still on, open it up and use a screw driver to work the latch a little to see if it just needs to be freed up.

After that, just follow the wires to the switch and see if you have an issue there.

You'll get the back door light when the tailgate is unlocked. I leave the third bolt from the back on the drivers side in the bed rail so that the rear window still works, and you can bump the window up an inch and it'll automatically lock.

For some reason, I never had to do this. Mine was simply close and loose the light. I wonder if my lock had been messed with?

Oh well try the lock and hopefully you'll be set.

Ya thanks everybody, it was the lock, I pushed it down and the light disappeared. I gotta say I love this truck, the way it feels and drives is awesome, and if everything is fixed up according to plan. I just might sale my 3rd generation and keep this one around permanently @Pisa I actually opened it up and straightened out the dent lol, it was one of those attention grabbing things lol.

I'm glad it worked out. It's always that simple thing you overlook it seems. And more pics. I love my runner too. If I didn't have a daily that gets such good mileage (33+ mpg) I would drive mine everyday

Thanks man, these things are awesome to drive. Now I just gotta fix my exhaust so I can feel the full power of this truck. Even though its missing a muffler it stills got some pep to it lol. I'm in love with the 1st gens :thumb3:
