Anyone got a clue as to why my check engine light came on after I changed my valve cover gaskets?

You probably just put a vacuum line back in the wrong place, but what code is it throwing? No sense freaking out over all the things it might be when the truck will just tell you if you ask nice.

I plan on taking it to a shop on friday to see what code its throwing. I should probably mention that I did adjust the throttle cable because there was a lot of slack. You think that has anything to do with it?

Nope, I don't think you could make the truck throw an engine code by adjusting the throttle cable. And if you take that truck to a shop to pull the trouble codes, I'm going to take away your man card.

Haha cut me some slack man, I'm new to the do it yourself stuff. But thanks for the info, Ima give that a shot. But reading over those codes and knowing how dirty my gas tank is and that the last time I went for a diagnostic they said I needed a fuel system cleaning really bad, I'm thinking one of these is the culprit. what do yal think?

This is true lol, but im being gentle with this truck, so far I've changed a lot of parts out, I've changed the timing chain, water pump, oil pump, fuel pump, valve cover gaskets, air filter, battery, rear brakes, and a radiator. Eventually when summer comes back around. I'm gonna get this thing painted all black and replace every gasket in the engine, get a new gas tank, replace my injectors and oxygen sensors, and I wanna know if I can get a gauge cluster with a tachometer like the SR5 ones. Which begs the question, can I fit a 1st generation SR5 gauge cluster in a DLX? But anyways I basically like this truck so much I've lent my 3rd Gen to my dad to drive til he buys a car/truck of his own. I got big plans for this truck.

Well lost all but one of my heater settings, it only runs on high. I did enough research on this site to find out its probably my blower motor resistor. At least this one I can fix by myself!

Took a trip to Switzer lake/Flag pole knob today. Put it in 4wd in most places and it performed like a champ. On the way home when I eventually made it back to pavement, I had lost all power. I stopped by a shop on the way home and told them I needed a fuel system cleaning, afterwards the runner is performing like a champ again. My tank must be really dirty, I'm gonna have to switch it out before it gets like that again. Heres some pics, videos coming soon!

After getting that fuel system cleaner and my truck still performing weird. I finally decided to drop the tank and clean it up. I pulled out the fuel pump no problem but the sending unit would not budge at all, all the screws holding it were rusted out and wouldn't move. But at least I know its my sending unit so I can replace it soon and get my fuel gauge working again. So I finally peeked inside the gas tank and it was so dirty and full of gunk and dirt. I can only imagine all the shaking this tank made on the trail and what on earth it sent into my fuel lines. I scrubbed and cleaned most of it out and put it back onto the truck. I started the truck up and this thing was idling like it wanted to die and it wasnt getting enough gas to it. I drove to the gas station and this thing would not go more then 15-20 mph. I finally made it to the gas station and put some more gas in, I pulled out and right in the middle of the road at a red light my truck died and wouldn't start again. I got help from a few strangers and pushed it off the road. I'm thinking my injectors are all clogged up, what yal think??? heres some pics.

That could be water in the tank from when you cleaned it, that could be a clogged injector, that could be a bad fuel filter, could be lots of things. You could dink around with it and replace this and clean that and maybe get lucky and get her running sooner rather than later, but with winter coming I wouldn't mess around. I'd replace the fuel pump, fuel filter, I'd clean out the tank again and be sure and run a couple bottles of fuel drier on your next full tank, and then you probably ought to yank the upper plenum and pull the injectors and get them cleaned.

I only used fuel to clean the tank not water, I didn't wanna risk it. I also bought a fuel filter but it got dark and I was already 30 minutes late for work so I couldn't hook it up. I was honestly on my way to get some seafoam and run it through the gas tank and crank case but I didn't make it. I think my injectors are completely clogged with the debris that was in the tank. The fuel pump looked like its in fair condition but the sending unit is gone! Pretty soon I'm gonna buy one of those aluminum tanks on ebay for $120 bucks and a new sending unit. For now I just gotta find a cheap way to get my runner home.

I don't think it's possible to not have roadside assistance anymore. Check with your cell phone company, check with your credit card companies, check with your insurance carrier, I almost guarantee you've got free towing from somebody.
You can change the filter on the side of the road. If you're dedicated, you can drop the tank and swap the fuel pump (too bad you just filled the tank!). But if it's your injectors this time, you can't clean them with Seafoam or whatever unless the engine is running. I'd find another way to bring it home.

I'm gonna check around and see what I can find. I might have no choice but to change the fuel filter on the road to be honest. But I'm almost 90% certain that my injectors are clogged. Because the way the truck was idling it looked like it wasn't getting any fuel at all! I'm not gonna mess with that tank again until I completely replace it. That thing was a pain in the ass to get down and back up.

i would try sea foam also because I have seen sea foam unclog injectors before

Yea that thing works like a charm, If I could just get my truck started so I can get it in there and it could get to my injectors.

Well I finally gave in and called my mechanic. He's gonna go pick up the truck tonight and take it to his shop and clean out my injectors. I also told him to install my new fuel filter for me so I don't have to mess with it. I can't wait to get my truck back.

Got a call from my mechanic today and, he told me injector number 3 is misfiring. Looks like thats the next thing on my to do list.
