Basic coilover education

Sup bros? I am curious what cliff notes yall can share for fully understanding properly maintaining coilovers.

I have read the ToyTec kit is pretty much a non-rebuildable & does not have a reservoir or piggy back unit.

ICONS & Kings seem to tote around the reservoirs... and now I'm at a point of thinking: Do I go all out for the top of line kit with the reservoirs or are they only needed for extreme off roading/wheeling?

I read reservoirs are primarily there to reduce heat and displacement of nitrogen/hydraulic fluid. Anything else?

What all is involved in maintaining Icon or King coilovers VS. ToyTec?

Honestly you do not need reservoirs up front un less you arw doing really crazy stuff.. I followed a guys blog (soaztim) and he traveled extensively on his icons and seemed to know our 4runners very well. He only had the standard travel coilovers up front. No extended travel and not even a aftermarket uca. The rears of our rigs don't allow a large shock so a reservoir helps there. I wanted 2.5 all the way around which is why I went with the rear res icon shocks.
 
As far as maintenance they are the same, essentially none... The differences between Icon/King and a Toytec kit is really performance, rebuilding and tuning. I have had vehicles with Icon, King, toytec kit and ome/5100s and can say hands down best ride has been with Icon and Kings, they are just on another level. With the type of wheeling I do I never saw the need for reservoirs but it was good to know you could always add them later.
 
If Denver salts their roads.. beware?

I know that when it comes to car suspension modding up here in Ontario, coilovers are typically not recommended to those who drive their vehicle in the winter months.

Rust and grime loves those adjustable moving parts.

My knowledge of coilovers is pretty limited though, so take what I say with a grain of road salt.

Yep... I use Fluid Film on mine undercarriage every year which helps but my coilovers still do get a bit grimy after a long winter.
 
Keep them clean. The number one cause of failed seals in shocks that we see is that people send them back to us for warranty coated in mud. The dirt and grit gets into the seals and chews them up pretty quickly.

I usually recommend to just hit them with the pressure washer at the car wash every couple weeks or whenever you wash your truck.

Is that your dark red monster outside the shop? I dropped my shit off at Smooth Ride yesterday and was gawking and your shit. Love it.

Came in and talked to Tanner yesterday. He got me lined up with everything I need.

He mentioned that the TC UCA's require grease, and the uniball requires a lubricant.
He also mentioned that coilover upkeep is important. Clean em up after every off road trip or oil change. (Correct?)

Any other tips for coilover maintenance?
On my papers, it says: "BOSS adjustable coilover shocks are considered servicable" - what does this entail?
 
When it comes to education, I have a great resource! I was struggling with a research on whether college athletes should be paid, and this useful reference came to the rescue. They provide a lot of help for college students, and I will be forever grateful for their assistance
