Basic suspension for 16 TE help

I want to apologize first fellas because I know the info has to be in here somewhere, but I've searched for it and had no real luck.. Anyways I just traded in my 16 TRD OR Tacoma for a new 16 TE and was wanting to know what the simplest suspension lift for it there is. I did the FJ lift to my 04 SE and have loved it. Was affordable, quick, and simple to do on my own.. Used 5100 Billies and FJ coils to achieve this on my 04..

My 04 as of now..

The new Trail..

Anyways was wanting somewhat the same stance on the Trail.. Was thinking 1 inch in back and 2 in front. Absolutely want no rake..

Note that I have no KDSS on it.. Thanks for any help and pics of setups similar to what Im looking for would be greatly appreciated.. God Bless..:thumb:

Honestly from everything I've seen you're still looking at the Bilstein 5100 / 6112, OME monotube, or maybe even the TRD / Bilstein set that comes on the TRD Pro as the entry level suspension lifts. The TRD / Bilstein setup sounds like it might have what you're looking for (leveling, beefier) and have the advantage of being OEM- it doesn't offer adjustability or a very large lift, tho.

I'd spend a couple of weeks clicking around here in 5th Gen territory if you haven't yet. Your answer IS definitely here, just takes some time to weed through everything.

I am unaware of a spring lift for the rear that only gives 1". If that's all you want then you'll have to go with a spacer. You'll also want longer shocks to avoid overextending.

Billy 5100 fronts adjust from 0" to 2.5". So for your purposes Billy 5100's all around with a 1" spacers in the rear.

There is an option now...

All of these springs could also be paired with 5100's. Dobinson a is newer to the US but has been a direct competitor to OME in Australia for years.

Thanks! Learn something new every day. That said, typically springs for the 5th gen are re-use of springs originally developed for other platforms (FJ, 4th gen, Prado, etc.) so the actual amount of lift isn't accurate. It usually runs high (so SAW 1.5" will actually give 2"+). Is that the case with Dobinson, or do they report lifts for our actual vehicle?

@dobinsonsmike could give you more accurate info, but their lift springs are a range and the 4Runner springs are usually developed for the Prado (I could be wrong) that has a very similar weight distribution. From what I saw on their spec info the rear springs vary by about 1/4" depending on if you have a 3rd row or not...i.e. .75-1" for the 1" springs and 1.75"-1.95" for the 2" option. None are as far off as the Wheeler's t12 coil that vary the lift by 1". As I said Mike has more and better info then me, my info is based solely on researching the forums, reviews, and their spec sheets. Also all of their measurements are in mm, so get your conversion chart ready :biggrin2:

I have Bilstein 6112's in the front and 5160's in the back. This is basically the unbranded TRD Pro set up. The 6112's are adjusted to the 4th ring, which was supposed to give 2", but clearly gave more. . . it's looks like it has some reverse rake. It does, but it's closer to level than it looks. If you did the third ring with this setup, I think you'd be closer to level. . . maybe a very slight rake . . . or I'm thinking that you could do the same front setup as mine, but with the beefier FJ rear coils that don't settle as much. You'd probably be dead level. I'm thinking about swapping out for FJ coils for that very reason.

This not true, let's not start the mis-information train......

6112's are totally different in at least 3 ways: Adjustments are different, Valving is different, Springs (Eibach® springs stamped Bilstein) are different weight rated and compress differently (not as soft as OEM) compared to the TRD-tuned Eibach® springs with decreased spring rates (softer-than-stock).

This has been covered many times in this forum and the 3rd Circlip groove on the 1st Gen 6112's will net you 2" of lift on a 4WD 4Runner.

Just getting the facts straight here for newcomers!

Thanks for the clarification Saker on the 6112's not being the same as branded TRD pros. Appears I got some bad info from someone at Bilstein. It happens, but glad you cleared that part up. Apologies to OP.

Regardless of how much it's been discussed here, 4th ring IS SUPPOSED to give you 2 inches per the specs. As I also stated, it gives you more. I'm not sure what was misinformation in this part. Please clarify. I don't recall seeing anyone on here who got 2" on the 2" setting. Thought everyone got more like I did, as I mentioned. If there's a thread where people got 2", on the 2" setting, I missed it and would like to see, as now I'm concerned about my install.

No worries.....

When I personally spoke with Bilstein Techs, they informed me when they were developing the 6112's, they used different year models and some 4WD's and 2WD's, they achieved those numbers and that is what they based their information on in the instruction sheets.
Several members here were in contact w/ Bilstein and informed them as to the differences in heights achieved versus information supplied thru their documents. I think one member even had their T4R at Bilstein Cali for evaluation. Obviously they never changed the info supplied.

To change things up even more, I wonder how close the achieved heights will be with the 2nd Gen 6112's.

Some of the information can be found in the 6112 thread.....
