Battery Advice

Recently I thought about this: The battery in my truck is the original!

5 years old and 84,000 miles on the truck and battery.

I've been thinking perhaps I should replace it even though it seems in good shape.

I have never had one last so long.

So battery guru's, whattya think?

I ordered an Odyssey Extreme that I'm waiting to arrive. Pretty sure my original factory battery is starting to loose its power. Plus having the accessories attached to it doesn't help for the type of battery it is. Figured I'd try something new.

Sorry about that. I didn't notice that other thread. Though it seems to have quite a few conflicting opinions.

Though if the oem 4Runner battery is really an Interstate I've got a couple more years to go on this one.

I don't think the OEM is interstate. I thought they were all panasonic batteries. Panasonic is a Toyota affiliate/partner in almost all things battery related. Of interesting note - the batteries that are produced at the "Tesla" gigafactory - they all say "Panasonic" on the side of them. Who's really making batteries there? (I don't think it's Tesla...)

Anyway, it seems like lifespans have varied on the OEM batteries. I'd expect 5-7 years of normal use. We just replaced the OEM battery in another Toyota at 8 years old. Personally - I'd save your money on an expensive battery and use the extra to buy a lithium jump starter. There's no evidence I'm aware of that the $300 batteries have any different lifespan in normal use from lead acid ones - and my personal experience was the opposite, but only anecdotal.

[.....]Though it seems to have quite a few conflicting opinions.

Conflicting opinions Ron? Here? You mean, like, tire opinions, suspension opinions, oil opinions, maintenance opinions, TRD Pro opinions, lighting opinions, paint opinions, windshield glass opinions, wheel opinions, dealer opinions, and ..... well ,,,,,, everything?

:lookout:

:couch2:

I had my 2010 from late 2009-dec 2016 and traded it in with the original battery. No signs of issues.

Is it correct that the great Pansonics that came in our rigs OEM are not available anymore? Mine is coming up on 6 years of use and I'd get another Pansonic in a heartbeat. best battery. Gonna read thru the battery thread and see what everyone else is doing.

I replaced a OEM Toyota battery that lasted 10 years! Just last year...moms gx470.
My OEM lasted 7 and I just replace it because of age with a Optima yellow that lasted 6.5 years.
With the bouncing around off-road I want a sealed AGM.
Prices from 7 years ago the Optima are $100 more now.

I did a Duracell SLI35/85AGM, less weight than the others I was looking at and less money, made in USA, 4 year warranty...
Not sure if you 5th gens are the same, with the reversed posts.

Seems to be working as advertised.
