battery cable replacement

I am in the process of putting new mil spec terminals on my rig. I also would like to replace the negative grounds off the battery while I am at it. Can I use this for the ground to the engine? They seem like a good price for 2awg wire. I plan to use 8awg car audio ground wire for the ground to the fender.

It is very simple to create your own cables, go with pure copper ring terminals and buy some solder and a small propane torch. I made my own around 3 years ago and they have held up great. Just a thought.

Otherwise yeah, shorter is better. Shorter cables have less resistance and voltage drop than longer ones. You want to make sure they are pure copper strand wiring, not solid wire or aluminum strand wires.

I agree on making your own, but I’ve switched from being a solder guy to a crimp guy after seeing this (it’s a little dry but there’s good info mixed in):

Shorter is better. Or you can increase the gauge size to reduce resistance as well [ wire diameter wider ] welding cables sizes.

That will work as well. Provided you keep the diameters of the 2 new wires half or greater then the original wires diameter. So the wires can handle the same amount of current or greater amount.
