Battery died today and need a good replacement

Used the car yesterday just fine and today went to start it and it clicked once and died. Nothing worked in the car. I dropped it off at auto zone and they said to give them 3 hours to see if it charges. Got an hour left before it's done trying to charge. They said my battery is a 27 and their gold series acid battery with 3 year full replacement and 2 years prorated is $129.99. I called Sears and their acid die hard is $134.99 with similar warranty. The AGM's are $180+ but only 3 year warranty.

Should I just get another acid battery from auto zone or Sears or pay more for the AGM with less warranty and less cranking amps?

I have an Advanced Auto now for three years so far so good. Most of the time I can get a good deal on them.

Wally World I believe are Johnson control made but on Bass Boat central are popular replacements along with Duracell you can get them at Sam's.

I've always had good luck with Optima's, the yellows are particularly awesome for vehicles that see a lot of use with the vehicle off. Pricey, but piece of mind is nice.

I google the advanced auto (autocraft) ever start (Walmart) and the duralast (auto zone) and they are all Johnson control so I'm thinking they are all very similar.

On the Odyssey note I put one in my Goldwing before we left for Yellowstone in 2009 on my 04 Wing that had the original battery in it just because I didn't want any issue which we didn't have. But the next 3 years sometime during each summer I ended up with a dead battery in it. Had their charger from day one and if the bike sat much over 2 weeks which it didn't during the summer I would put it on their charger for 5-7 days. The first time they replaced the battery. The second time they had me run some test on the charger and they replaced both the battery and charger. Third and last time they sent another new battery. There was no excessive draw on the bike either. Sold that bike. I thought they were good batteries but after all that I've decided to go with old school type batteries or AGM type and regular chargers.

I have an Odyssey in my Tundra for a few years, and has worked perfect. Northstar in my 4runner for 3 years, also working great. Highly recommend either.

put a group 31 if you can, might need a small mod, but has more power. depending if you have alot of electrical accessory, i would do agm over the wet. but if you just want a good wet battery, interstate mega tron plus is good.

Thanks for all the replies. My Tru start ended up having a dead cell and it charged up some but they said it would probably die within a very short time. So I ended up just buying a 27 again for $129 and they have a $20 rebate for all batteries at AutoZone. Comes with 3 year full replacement and 2 year prorated.
If I would have seen the 30% coupon for advanced auto I may have gone AGM. Just glad it's resolved and don't have to worry about getting to work tomorrow.

I've installed the Bosch Premium in all 3 of my vehicles over the last 2 years.
One of which, is an F250 diesel with two starting batteries. So, all 4 batteries are still strong, including the 4runner. Great batteries for the price. Can get them at Pep Boys.

Can't go wrong with Interstate. I personally do not like optima or odyssey unless you really need a battery that can be flipped upside down I don't see the benefit and they do not last as long.

Those are great batteries. I had 4 odyssey PC2100 on my boat and two weren't holding their charge after 7 years and 2 were still okay. They are in storage somewhere and maybe still work. Ended up replacing them with 4 sears platinum back in 2014-2015. The North star I think took over and they are identical to the sears platinum. Which we all know are made by Odyssey.
I'll probably run the new one until it craps out then reconsider the AGM. My runner is already 11+ years old so at 14+ years I maybe considering a new suv by then.

Are there any relatively affordable AGM batteries out there? Not counting Optima and Odyssy. I loveed my Die Hard Platinum in my last truck but I have come to understand that they are not made anymore. I am not in a rush, but all the decent ones seem to be in the $300 range which is way too much. I hope I am not right about the Platinum series. Still hods a good charge in a truck that has not bee run in at least tow years though I stick the charger on it every two weeks or so. Terminals are backwards for our 4th gens though. Hoping it will still be ok if I can get the cash to do a dual battery setup some day...

If you do go Optima yellow top, don't do what I do and buy a group 35. They do fit and the website say they fit, but it's tiny and you have to use a stupid yellow spacer under it.

Get the 27F - it's bigger but fits perfectly, 200 more CCA's.

I'm still trying to sell my brand new Optima yellow top 35...gonna take a $100 loss cause i'm an idiot.

northstar group 27 will fit without mod, I use 31 but its modify a little to fit, I took off the negative terminal since its too high for the hood to close.

Caterpillar. Most people overlook them, but they're build for heavy duty construction equipment and trucks. Heavy duty plates and cases. They have a 24f, 27f and 31. The High Output 31 has 1000CCA and 180 minutes of reserve. Their warranty is great, and I would trust them anywhere. Mine is 4 years old and no problems. My RAV4 has 3 years on a Cat battery, and it's going strong.

Are the CAT batteries as expensive as I think they would be? I like that option but something tells me that since they are industrial batteries they cost a premium...
