Battery help please

I know I've posted on this before but I find the topic confusing. I can't spend a lot on a battery right now but think I found a reasonable one for my 2003 v8. at Walmart. I know it's not the best but I only need it for general use. Of course I would prefer a sealed one but can't afford it at the moment.

I measured the capacity of the battery tray in the 4Runner. It's about
11 x 7x 8 inches.

Here is the battery I found:

It's about 10.5 x 6.5 x 7 inches.

Do you guys think this will be a reasonable purchase / replacement for the next couple years? Thanks

If it's 12V and it fits it should work just fine!!

I would have absolutely no problem buying a car battery at WM for normal service.
Not necessary to buy expensive batteries.
Never let a battery stay in a run down state very long!!
Usually the bigger the better. Get the biggest that will fit.
You'll be fine.
 
A few weeks ago I found a coupon code online for advance auto parts. The code was BIG40. It was a code for $40 off of $100 so I got a nice battery for like 60 bucks. Hunt around online to see what coupons you can find. And as for size, check the cold cranking amps. I dont believe the actual size matters. I got the Gold series battery which was smaller but the CCA (cold cranking amps) was correct. It will say on the label on the battery you currently have or in your owners manual.

Forget that Walmart battery.

Go to your local Toyota dealer and you can get a replacement battery that is the same exact size and same exact specs (CCA, reserve capacity, etc) as your original battery. Also, it's a 7-year battery, which is awesome. I just got one last month and it was $100 plus tax.

Toyota part number: 00544-27F60-710
This is a group size 27F, with the following dimensions: 12" x 7" x 9" (same size as the original battery)

I live in Canada. The battery you specified is $198 up here.

So I phoned Toyota in the U.S. just south of our border and they quoted me the $99. I will be driving there to purchase it and also save $25 on a tank of gas and cheap groceries as well.

For a few bucks more I'd get an Interstate. And I agree; don't buy the WalMart battery. I like to refer to them as "NeverStart".

Don't let physical size be your only criteria. You need to confirm that the CCA is equal to or greater than the OE battery.

Actually, the Walmart battery he was considering has more CCA than the OEM battery. So I do think it's a good battery. But I like the fact that you can buy a Toyota battery that has the same exact specs as OEM and is also the same exact physical size. A $100 price is just icing on the cake. That's a good price for such a large battery.

I'v experienced issues with multiple WalMArt batteries. I've had very good luck with Diehards and Delco's and know quite a few folks that won't buy anything BUT Interstate. Don't be gulible into thinking that a higher CCA rating means a lot. The internal construction of many batteries will result in early, catastrophic failure where as a well-built battery will simply degrade over time and allow you to replace it before being left stranded, assuming you're intelligent enough to tell when a battery's capacity is diminished.
 
Yes I agree. Right now when I turn the key, the battery starts ok for about half a second. Then it drops off considerably right before it starts, almost killing the battery. Hope it lasts till Tuesday.

Great advice; this is definitely the way I would go.
 
I do not have one but Walmart batteries ussually come out on the top in Consumers Reports magazine testing. There are only 2 or 3 companies that make batteries. They just put different names on them. Look at the date the battery was made and get the newest one you can find. Setting on the self for long periods of time is what kills them.
 
First off I am not a Costco geek just a car geek. I have seen in several publication that their Kirkland branded battery is historically amoungst the least expensive and highest rated batteries on the market.

The high CCA rating of the Walmart battery isn’t the reason why I think it’s a good battery. The only reason I even mentioned the CCA rating is because you suggested it was an important factor to consider when replacing a battery. So I mentioned that it was a higher CCA rating than the OEM battery. And the Walmart battery he posted also has a 9-year warranty.

By the way, don’t be gullible when it comes to brand names. Do you really think the Walmart battery is made by Walmart? There are only a few manufacturers of all automotive batteries. The Walmart battery is made by Johnson Controls. And if you look it up, you’ll see that Johnson Controls also makes Interstate batteries, as well as DieHard and Duralast batteries, just to name a few. Actually, they make a lot of other branded batteries as well.

Yes, Kirkland batteries are made by Johnson Controls, just like Interstate batteries. Brand names are nice, but they don't have much meaning when it comes to automotive batteries.

I am fairly sure the Toyota Truestart battery is Johnson control as well.
I also like seeing the Toyota label on it as well. For $10 I am going to have them put a new bracket on as well as the current one is corroded.
