Battery Help

I'm needing a new battery, and this is one area that I'm not very savvy of. I'm looking into getting a Duralast Platinum, but can't decided between a 35-AMG or a 24F-AMG. Below are the spec's for each.

35-AMG: $201
600 Cold Cranking Amps
835 Cranking Amps
100 Reserve Minutes
3 Year Warranty

24F-AGM: $215
710 Cold Cranking Amps
885 Cranking Amps
120 Reserve Minutes
3 Year Warranty

If there really that much of a benefit for one vs the other?

I'm a big fan of Interstate batteries. I purchased one for the old '01 in November, it was $125 at Firestone w/ a on-line coupon. Between the 2 that you posted, the group type 24F has better specs. Does the other battery share the same physical dimensions as the 24F ?
 
Odyssey 34r all the way. I have one in my 08 Tundra that's 8 years old and cranks it like new. 880 CCA. I just put one in my 1996 4Runner. Be sure and get the $8 height adapter if you go this route. It was around $250. If you are interested I can look back and see where I ordered it from after shopping around for the best price.

Dimensions are not the same as the 35.

Just bought one today. Need to either replace the bottom tray or come up with another way to secure the base - it's about 2" longer (wider) than a G24 battery
 
Little of topic. But since it’s about batteries. I used to have. Red top optima, 34R to be exact. Which has 800 cold cranking amps. Anyways, it died on me about a year after having it. ( probably wasnt good that I have a winch and decent amount of electronics ) anyways, I got it warranties and picked up a yellow top. A true deep cycle. I just paid the difference, roughly $40. So wasn’t to bad. Now the yellow top is D35. 620 cold cranking amps. My question is, why would a more expensive optima battery have less cranking amps ? And also the yellow top is much smaller than my red top.

That's odd, that battery he posted is a group 24. Was the previous battery a 25 or 3x ?

Make sure you hold on to the receipt. I was pretty much SOL when the Exide I bought from Home Depot died (couldn't even hold a charge afterwards) and I couldn't find the receipt.

Different internals in deep cycles.

The Exide he posted is a 24FX, check the dimensions, it's longer (10.625") by about 2" than my current G24 (8.75")

I am running the same battery and love it ... Parts store take u to the cleaners with there batteries goodness

Really strange. That Exide is supposed to be a Group 24. The F is a Battery Council International designation for the terminal location and "X" is Exide's own designation for their eXtreme line of batteries...have you actually measured or test-fit it? I was just looking through some online battery stores and there's quite a bit of variance in lengths for Group 24, even seen almost 11.25" :confused:

According to the Battery Council the general size for a group 24 is: DIMENSIONS IN INCHES*: 11" 6.50" 9.25" LxWxH

Your old battery is definitely too small. Maybe the previous owner went cheap and or changed the tray? I put a smaller battery in my old 01 Honda Accord because of a sale but the CCA were fine & I had no issues.

You're right. My current G35 Optima is 9.25" long, and this Excide is closer to 10" than 10.625" like the HD website says.

The battery tray, flimsy white plastic, is roughly the 1/8-1/4" larger than the Optima on each side. I will deffo need a larger one of these.
 
I have no beef with the toyota true start. 84 month warranty. for the 24F I see 575 CCA and 130 mins reserve. not the highest CCA's, but about $125

What they don't tell you about those is the warranty is pro-rated halfway through the "covered" warranty. Meaning once you pass 42 months and it needs replacing it is half customer pay and half covered. Still not bad though.

However, for most that run a lot of accessories and a winch etc. that CCA will not cut it. For a lot cheaper there's better bang for your bucks out there.

That's the battery I'll end up with once my current one dies. Pricey but worth it. Any issues with the spacer adapter sliding around when wheeling? I was gonna fab a higher mount but if there spacer works without shifting I'd use it.

It snaps on tight. Hasn't moved on me at all so far. The wife's GX460 is getting one next.
