What's a reasonable life expectancy for the OEM batt? Mine (purchased 4R new 9/14) looks like it's on its way out.

I see you have a 2014 (this is the .96-'02 forum, btw.) OEM for our trucks were Panasonics. I got almost seven years on mine. They were legendary, but never available in the US.

I'm curious, what is Toyota using in yours as OEM? Still Panasonic?

Yes, Panasonic. And it is dead as of today. Odd, and a bit annoying. I am not one to sit and play the radio, or leave the lights on or anything like that. It's got plenty of fluid in it.

My Grandmothers 2006 rav 4 still has the Panasonic factory battery. Car only has 35k on it but I can't believe I haven't had to replace it yet. She said it cranked fine the other day when it was 9 degrees that morning.

I wonder if my use patterns have anything to do with it. My daily commute is less than 4.5 miles total (both ways).

Battery talk - 2020 version.

Anyone got any insights into the current (pun intended) state of the art for reliable starting while providing some accessory support? I'd like to replace my old yellow top before winter....

Edit - the Optima was previously in my 2nd gen where it slid off the tray and ground up against the power steering pulley for days and is now ( 8 months later) bubbling a bit of whitish poison. Not holding a charge real well either.

On paper, an Optima Yellow is fine, though the forums are split on whether the quality "went down" when the mfg. was moved to Mexico over 10 or 20 years ago. Odyssey and Northstar are the glamour brands, but many 'other brand' AGM's can be gotten for somewhat less $$.
One note: If you do a lot of short trip driving, AGM batteries may not get a full recharge in normal use.
I live in the city, so a lot of short trip driving. My last Odyssey PC1500/34R was still starting fine when I decommissioned it at about the 6.5 year mark. After I replaced it (with another of the same battery), I learned that all that short trip driving---without being fully recharged--- had reduced it's capacity.
Now, with my new, fresh, miracle jewel-like Odyssey battery, I top off the charge with a smart charger every other week or so.

Yeah I'm not an Optima guy or anything. I ended up with one for a variety of reasons. I also have the City issue but I drive a hundred or 2 miles on the weekends. I also park in the sun during the work week and I got a little solar cell battery backfill panel. Whether or not it actually does anything is hard to judge. I'll probably just get a strong starting battery rather than a fancy AGM or deep reserve battery and call it a day. Just wondering what people are feeling these days.....

Anyways, I've had zero problems with this battery and would recommend 100%

The 27F is just a longer and 1/8”taller than a 24F with higher Ah and RC specs.

I think next battery time I’m going to make a 27F fit.
