Battery Test Results

Hi Guys,

This morning, I had trouble starting the car...not sure what happened, could have been something as simple as my foot not being all the way down on the clutch (1998 4wd manual). Anyway, I panicked, took it in for a free battery test, and here are the results:

Voltage: 12.88V
Measured: 637 CAA
Rated: 800 CAA
Temperature: 128 F

They recommended a replacement, but I wanted to hold until I did a little more research. Whenever I do a search, I seem to see mixed opinions about these tests. What are you guys' thoughts? Should I go ahead and replace it?

To note: my battery has a manufacture date of January 2008 (rated to last 85 months), so I've had my eye on the battery for a little while. It's an Interstate battery and I have never had any problems. Please advise, thanks guys.

Keep it until next winter at least, 637 CCA is more than enough to start you engine.

does it struggle whenever you are using the clutch start cancel button?

Stats look good

I'd keep it unless I had a long trip ahead. Usually the heat kills em' sooner here in central texas. I usually replace them at about 36 months or the fail first. I usually begin getting slower starts (turning over more slowly) for a week or two before the end....

Got it-- yep the only thing that concerned me was the fact that it's from 2008....but I'll keep going (going great so far, knock on wood)

it allows you to start the engine without having to push in the clutch. there is a little white plunger button at the very bottom of the clutch pedal travel that must be pushed in before it will allow the engine to turn over. the clutch start cancel switch bypasses that. just make sure you aren't in gear when using it.

i was just suggesting it as a way to eliminate some variables with your (possible) starting issues.

also it will save you at least 1 clutch push per drive. these clutches aren't the lightest in the world you know
