Finally figured out how to re-do my rear swingout. The first setup had a ton of wobble just wasn't something I really wanted on my rig anymore. Decided on a split design and super beefy hinges.

Original

Cut down to the "bones"

Rear hoop built.

Hinges made from 2" stock and 1/4" plate.

Perch and clamp hold this thing down super tight!

Had to angle the tire straight again. The corner of the hatch wouldn't clear. Just enough space to clear now.

Cleaned the garage and then decided I needed to mount the high-lift too. I gotta get a hinge so that it's lockable. The U-shaped cradle is my 1/4 weld test. So besides the lock...now I'm done with this side.

Not at all man, that's 1/8" plate and with the 45 deg braces, it's not allowed to flex...physics bro! I do keep my metal as light as possible while maintaining strength where required such as the swing joints.

I built a rear bumper for my buddy Jarrod and man is he lucky. The more you use your rig, you might get an idea here or there on how it could be better. He happens to be the lucky recipient of a few good ideas and improvements.

Better welds.

Rear tire not in the way.

Better latch placement. Directly over keepers.

Wider swing with 45'd hinges.

Are you still using a harbor freight welder? Those welds look too good to be coming from an HF welder.

i like the rear bumper! definitely gives me some ideas for my build. Did you brace the arm that holds the spare? either under or either side? is there any worry that fatigue from the weight of the spare could break it off?

Nothing going to break unless it gets seriously abused. Just like the rest of the truck.

The HF welder is long gone bro! I got a nice 135amp, MIG from Eastwood. The welder is awesome. Still running on 110v outlet with .023 wire and 75/25 gas. I love it! Going for their plasma cutter next.

Speedo not working - Tach OK

All, it appears as though you have converted an automatic to a manual and the one thing I can't find in the thread is how or what you used to get your speedo adapted to the manual trans. from the auto.

I have a 1992 4Runner that has already been converted with lots of Trail Gear goodies and a Land Cruiser front axle conversion - so I am ready to hit the trail however the only thing left is the speedo set up.

Anyone have any advise - merchant - source for the adaptor for the speedo cable to work on the manual trans from the auto set up.....

Maybe way off - however that is what the previous owner stated was all that it needed to get the speedo working. Did I bite on the bait and get the hook or is there something/someone that can help.
