I have a simple question, its possible been answered but i cant find it...something wrong with computer...and google, bing, or any other search engine.... when i click a link, it just redirects me back to their home page or some random page....:smash:


SOOOO....with that being said....i need some help??

I know that doing a projector retrofit to my headlights would be best...but honestly i dont have 400-500 bucks to spend on some headlights...got alot of other mods that are more important to me than that right now. However, Silverstars SUCK BALLSACK!! So what is the best HID kit to go with? Was thinking about going with a kit from DDM Tuning. whatcha think??? Any other suggestions?? OTHER THAN SAVE MY MONEY FOR THE RETRO FIT!!!!

Without the proper projector setup your reflector housings will scatter light and most likely be less effective than the standard halogen; not to mention itll blind oncoming traffic. Ddm is definetly not the best kit, but it is the best bang for your buck.

unless you get the 55 wat ones then the chepness of the product comes out when you melt the really harness. but ddm will replace for free! so eather way you get what you pay for!

Yes, an HID bulb is not designed to work in a halogen housing. It does, however, produce way more light than a stock halogen light, and if you go with a lower temp bulb, like 4300k, it'll help with night visibility 100%. You'll need to aim your headlights down some as to not blind oncoming traffic, but it can be done, so the blinding oncoming traffic argument is dumb. I've had DDM kits in at least 5 of my cars, and probably know at least 20 people with them in theirs, and NOT ONE person has ever melted ANYTHING with a 35w kit. I just pulled a year old DDM kit out of my 4runner when I did my projector retrofit.

I also went with the DDM kit for my 4runner. I went with the 8000k setup as to not blind on coming drivers. I didnt have to re-aim it and have only had one person flash me. Ironically it was a very large truck so I couldnt figure that part out. The shipping is a little slow through them. i haev had more expensive kits and quite honestly the only problem i have had with the DDM kit is one foglight blew up. I think that was my fault since I forgot to put a plug in the bottom and it either got wet or just really cold. The other one still works fine. If I ordered the kit from them again I think I would probably go with the 6000k kit but not 100% sure. I have 6000k bulbs I may switch in there to see how much brighter they are but you may get more "flashers" with this kit or the 4300K kit. The first HID kit I put in my 4runner was a 35w DDM kit, the passenger side melted in 3-4 months. Some people have had luck with them, I sure haven't. Cheapo $60 kit. :shrug:

ya, I've heard people having issues, but I never have. They're also considerably cheaper than that now, last year I got my kit for $48 shipped, and they recently had a sale on them for like $28 or something crazy.

Ok...i think it was your 4Runner that made me start thinking about getting the HIDs. My headlights housings are terrible so i had planned on buying 2 new headlight housings from ebay, along with the kit from DDM. Yeah it is a lil crazy how cheap they are right now....I am not trying to blind anyone, and basically just want to be able to see better at night. I have to take ALOT of back roads to get to my house and factory headlights just dont cut it. I gotta be able to see BAMBI...i dont have a big bad Bambie slayer bumper yet lol!!

Later on down the road i will eventually do the retrofit. SO i am gonna keep my housing and use those when i do my retrofit.

You might want to look into a small LED lightbar instead. Those HID kits don't do much. You're not going to get the light output you need with an HID kit.

Yeah thats exactly what it is doing...doesnt matter what i use to search something when i try to click a link....it redirects back to search engines web page or in search bar it redirects me to t4r or some other random page.:smash::smash::smash:

Yeah that would be nice....but dont have 300 hundred plus for a light bar.... I just couldnt buy a lil 8 inch light bar...lol i would have to have a BIGG BOY one!

You probably don't want to hear what I have to say on this topic but I'm going to be as non-biased as possible, given your situation.

Get some new housings and run the PIAA XTreme bulbs would be an option. Your not going to blind traffic and your going to get way better light output until you can do a retrofit. Lots of my local wheeling friends run the PIAA bulbs and sweat by them until they do a retrofit. If your going to put HID's in your factory housings, you will blind people - period. Even adjusting them to their MAX lowest setting before the adjustment starts to thread out of the housing, your still going to get light scatter into peoples eyes, it's pure fact. Just cause you "dont get flashed" doesn't mean your not blinding people. You might as well run some Hella/PIAA/Lightforce Aux. lights and just leave them on with your low beams, it's sort of the same principle.

That being said, I know the factory lights blow and totally lack in output. You don't have an unlimited budget to work with - got it. I would honestly say that investing in some good auxillary lights may be the best option. Get on one of [MENTION=50591]gaterose[/MENTION] group buys and buy a set of 2x2 LED lights in the "fog" beam pattern for like $60? and then buy a small LED lightbar for $200 or even another set of the 2x2's but in the "spot" pattern. Run the fog's on your low beam switch to light up the ditches with the low beams on (still aim them correctly, of course) and run the spot pattern with your high beams. This way your getting a new setup of offroad lights that you can use camping/wheeling, your not blinding people around town (cause you can turn all the aux. lights off when your in the city), and you can run any combination of them when your on the highway at night and need the extra output. My way of thinking may be way off of what most people's answer is but I' honestly think you can get a light setup that you would be happy with, that won't break your bank, OR blind traffic. My $0.02....

Let me know if you're interested in the LEDs. I'm probably not going to be doing anymore group buy orders, so big bars won't be an option, but next week I'll have several pairs of the 3x3s (not 2x2s), Rickashay was talking about, and a couple others to sell until they're gone.

As for the HIDs - I have a 4th gen, but I still have to agree with others that HIDs in reflector housings are a bad idea. I tried HIDs in my reflector housings and they were bright but the light was scattered everywhere and I kept getting flashed, even after adjusting them down (which pointed the sweet spot of light to a less useful area). The worst was on the interstate, some truckers have a light behind the cab aimed directly at the left lane driver's face.

I ran PIAA Xtreme whites, as Rickashay mentioned, in mine until I retrofitted some halogen projector housings, then finally actual HID projectors. I believe you can get a set of mini morimoto projectors for around $110-120 with shrouds, maybe even the HID kit. If not, you can get the projectors and a cheap HID setup from eBay for $150 altogether. If you get in the TRS GB they continually run on TW it might be even cheaper. Not the ultimate setup but it works properly like a real HID setup. Pretty straightforward install as well.

Don't buy other from ebay, and DDM tuning sucks. I have purchased them and it arrived with a busted bulb. When they gave me two new bulbs, it was the wrong color. They have sent me a third set and the two bulb colors were off. So after all that wasted time i decided to buy a kit off ebay that said made in germany to find out it was made in china with german technology in side. Just get the Morimoto hid, if you already haven't got one yet, and save your self from the disaster i went through. Trust me they are the best kit i have bought.

Yeah i agree 100% now that i have the DDM kit installed...the light output is better. However it is scattered everywhere. I bought new housing a month ago, and ran Silverstars in it and it just really SUCKED. I thought about getting the PIAAs but ended up changing my mind at the last minute. I like Rickashays ideal pretty good about the LED pods. After looking at the retrofit resource website. I am gonna probably order the mini morimoto projectors D2 kit from there and some shrouds. I do want to do some LED pods but am trying to think of way to put them in the factory foglight location on my 4Runner....I am on kinda a tight budget with my 4Runner next couple months with having to buy school clothes and supplies for my kids....

I ended up getting the DDM Kit and everything came in pretty good. It looks like it is pretty well made too...IDK hopefully they have changed a few things up since u purchased ur kit. I do have to say that i am not really all impressed with it though. I have brand new headlight housings and the light is still pretty scattered so i am going to be doing a projector retro fit. When i get the $$....

I installed at least 25 kits in cars and motorcycles.
cheap ebay kit can work as well as original Mercedes HIDS, I compared, same shit 10 times less money.
are people really so naive believing that any hids made elsewhere but china?
I personally never seen one, even in conversion kits, Japanese or German label printed in Shenzhen didn`t make that made in japan or Germany.
last 3 kits I bought from this seller, smallest ballasts and correct bulb temperature. I installed 3 of these kits in my truck hi,low and fog lights , I love these lights, no one flashing at me.
