Don't do it. I used to have truck. The bedliner color will fade very fast. The color will not look good after 5-6 months.

I know a few people who have line-x all over their trucks and their accessories and there hasn't been a single color fade. One guy did his fenders of his dually his cab fairing and his bumpers and it still looks brand new.

Get the good stuff and it lasts get the cheap stuff and it fades. The local line-x place does a bunch of vehicles for the dealership and i haven't seen a problem yet.

other than line-x, what can I buy in a can and spray it myself?

I was gonna do it, but I bought the stainless steel Westin instead of the black so there's really no need. Call your local Rhino Lining dealer or Line-X dealer. You could also check into a professional powdercoating. I don't know that I'd try it myself, though.

Once upon a time I added "bedrails" on my pickup using the 'liner in a can' stuff.

My reaction is mixed. Initially the look and results seemed really good. However, my fatal mistake was to not completely cover all areas in primer first. The instructions (incorrectly) said to spray right on top of paint. Certain areas just flaked away. Sad.

I purchased this product at Canadian Tire...I can't recall the exact name. There were 2 to choose from, the other had an elephant or rhino on the can. Again, my memory fails me.

Previous to this I had a friend (who was in autobody) fix up significant paint damage to my tailgate with this type of 'in a can' liner and it lasted 2 years before going slightly gray. It didn't fade beyond that. He must have used a better product, because the 'bedrails' started going grey much sooner.

I think it would probably work on something like your westin... you can wait until rust is a problem, then consider this or go professional (line-x or whatever). Personally I would go professional.

You could also try Herculiner.

Look no further than Hammerite Spray paint. On yotatech ppl have used it for sliders and even Stubbs Welding recommends Hammerite on their sliders. I have not used it, but yotatechers swear by it.

Had a friend apply the Herculiner to his FJ40 floor and running boards... not bad for an inexpensive self-applied product. I've also seen some rock rails Line-X'd on an FJ Cruiser. Those look really good and will probably last a long time if scraping rocks doesn't peel the bottom off.

I lineXed mine and love them its been over two years and no fad at all. As for using rockguard from crappy tire yes it will fade. The hippo brand I have used on our 5X8 trailer has been on for 3 1/2 years and in the sun always has also no fade on it.
