Before I begin the Conversion

What does the 4x4 connector wire look like since that is prewired?

if your truck is the same as ours, the wires for the center diff lock and DAC are already there. once you have the 4x4 ecu and 4x4 transmission the switches are plug and play. the 4wd selector switch plug is one of only two free plugs behind you bezel, and its the smaller of the two .

Its not solid advise in any way shape or form. You have ZERO idea what you are talking about and are calling your loosely formed opinion a fact. go back and read post 1.... the OP asked for people NOT to make post like yours.

converting a used 2wd to 4x4 makes it worth less than a used 2wd...? really man? show me where you have concluded these "facts". O you cannot, because its your opinion on the subject you know nothing about. You said its just a fact, backed by......well...backed by, you said so...?

so by your "facts" he would be better to sell his paid off 2wd, he will get about $8500 for it (nothing extra for all of his mods) then buy a comparable 4x4 for around $11500 and have to re-do all of his mods. so he will be in debt several thousand dollars, and have to start over on mods rather than spend $2k and have the vehicle he wants. Yea, that's sound advise.......

I am with Pitbull410 on this. If you research others who have done this or attempted to it can be a nightmare to sort out just the electronics of this conversion. I do not think you are considering depreciation of his converted vehicle. I would not consider buying some cobbled together franken-yota because of lost resale value and reduced reliability. This is not negative but good advice from folks who have been down this road. Sell 2wd vehicle and buy 4wd and it will be money well spent and way less headaches.

First I'd say since it's been awhile he probably won't even do it. The longer he waits the busier he'll get with school and maybe working. BUT if he is still planning on it I say do whatever you want. I would'nt on mine becasue that's me. I'd probaby get a winch or just not do a lot of hardcore obstacles but I think it would be fun to watch him go through the process and maybe learn a little. When it comes down to it it isn't my money so I'd say do whatever you want. If it turns out a huge mistake at least you can say you tried. there's always money to be made if you know how to work

Explain "cobbled together". All the parts are plug and play from Toyota (or salvage). You could not possibly tell mine was a conversion unless you ran the vin and spotted the "4x2". I don't know anyone else who has done a 4th gen so I'm not sure who "all the people who have done it" you are referring to. Two people on here have recommended either:
-Taking mods off 2wd- sell 2wd at a loss - buy 4x4 for 3-6k more- outfit 4x4 with old parts
Or
Sell 2wd as is - take bath on mods- buy 4x4 for 3-6k more- start over buying mod$$$$

How on earth does that make more sense than spending 2k to convert to 4x4 with ALL OEM parts?

I agree, it's probably not going to happen at this point, but I get a little case of the butt hurt when people act like its a bad idea and makes the vehicle worthless. But an SAS, where you really do hobble stuff together is okay.

Converting a 4th gen v8 to 4x4 is exactly as hard as installing a lift kit and gears. It's a 1 day job and literally every part bolts into place.

I sold my 2003 limited 4x4 conversion truck to a membe here.... He loves it and it still works perfectly.

Rant over......oh wait. I forgot to mention, I love the way that people who don't know what it takes of have ever done a mod, tells people they would be better off not doing it.

Okay I'm done....... Well one more, I'm upset with that dentist that pulled out all of that one guys teeth for no reason, that's just cruel.
