Belt Change

Hi All. I have to change out the radiator in my runner this weekend, and I thought that it might be a good time to also change the belts as I will have some nice access to the front of the engine with the old radiator out. I haven't had time to explore what all is involved in changing belts. Just want to know if timing wise it would be good to do it all at the same time. Thanks for the advice.

Well are they ready to be changed (meaning worn, frayed, cracked looking)?

On the other hand, if you have the time/$, go for it - you'll know not to worry about that anyway...Luck! :cowboy:

more room to work the better ! I just replaced all mine a few weeks ago and was surprised at how difficult it was (for me anyway). those ratcheting swivel wrenches sure would have helped!

Yeah some ratcheting wrenches will help alot with the drive belts, they're easy to do though. I did mine when I did the timing belt since they come off anyway. Did the radiator at the same time.

To be honest, I've never replaced a non-serpentine belt. It's just not worth the hassle, a shop will do it for pretty cheap if you tack in on with another job they are already doing.

If the tensioner bolts are rusty, expect to snap one or more when you try to remove them. The simple fact is, V-belts will snap as they get old. The belts we have are micro-rib belts, kind of like a mini serpentine belt. They just dont fail like the old v belts. If its not sqealing and the ribs arent missing chunks of rubber, just leave it alone until you do the TB. Its more of a pain in the azz than its worth.

IIRC they are M8 x 1.25 4" long
