Bent electric antenna mast

So question is can just the mast be replaced? If so what do I buy and how difficult of a job is it to replace. If the complete antenna with motor needs to be replaced I would probably buy from a scrap yard. But if that is the case I have been told that the fender needs to be removed? Too much work for a lazy rookie shadetree mechanic with limited mechanical skills? I do have a couple friends that I could get to help if necessary.

What year? There are a few write ups kicking around for 1st and 2nd gens. The process is different between the two. You only have to remove the fender LINER to access the mounting bolt.
