Bent Rear Lower Control Arm - My Wife's Poor 4Runner

My wife visited a friend here in town late Friday evening, and when she got home she mentioned that she accidentally backed off the edge of a culvert and heard a loud scraping noise. She stopped and then put it in drive to get out of it, which required some peeling out. Apparently it was a long driveway with no lighting... and it was also my fault since I called her to come home because our young son woke up and wanted milk :ybrick:

Anyway, I went out to the garage to take a look. Sure enough, her 4Runner must've dropped down onto the driver's side rear lower control arm and mount, because the arm has a significant bend in it compared to the other side. Luckily the mount doesn't look badly damaged, aside from a nasty scrape and some missing paint.

From what I gather, the rear lower control arm is part 48720-35061 and appears to maybe be the same as the one used on the 4th gen and FJ Cruiser.

Any tricks to replacing this thing? Just straight bolt in swap, or am I in for a hard time?

Should be straight forward.
For removal the repair manual just says to unhook the PKB and undo the bolts at each end.
For installation just make sure you put wheel/tire on and lower onto the ground before torquing the control arm bolts :thumb:

I don't let my wife out of the house past sun down. JK. Should be pretty straight forward.

Pretty easy to replace. You will need a ratchet strap or something to get the axle back into position as it will move when it is detached.... It's a slight wrestling match.

Might want to consider replacing with aftermarket (basically a DOM tube) if you ever offroad it as you can see they are paper thin and bend very easy.

If not.. look for a used one.. most people replace them and throw away the old ones.

Thanks for the help guys! Since a new one from the dealer is almost $200, I guess I'll try to track down a preowned one and just hope the bushing are OK.
