Best 2DIN Screen?

From what I've read, its identical to a DNX8120 (a unit released last year) with the exception of the microphone for the bluetooth microphone being built in and steering wheel capability without additional parts for certain vehicles. One review, obviously with their Eclipse blinders on, stated that its the first All in one navigation dvd entertainment system to offer 6 channel pre-outs at a high 5volts. DNX8120 = FL,FR,RL,RR,S,C all at 5 volts. They also use Garmin navigation vs Eclipse using Tom Tom. Nothing wrong with Tom Tom, but most will agree garmin is a step ahead.
Another complaint with eclipse is that you can't do iPod video via the iPod interface ... meaning you can't control the video on the screen like you can with kenwood, pioneer, etc... Maybe this new model will fix this?
Without more specs, its a bit early to declare it the best on the market. But based on the AVN6620, they are gonna have to beef it up quite a bit to compete with the DNX8120, not to mention the DNX9140 coming out in April.

Ha, by all means it is an honor. But what you may not know is companies actually have to submit their product to be considered for this award. EVERYTHING at CES wasn't considered for this award....
Check around at some of the other categories and see who were considered an "honoree" and you might change your mind about the significance of that award...
Not dogging the Eclipse... but again there are barely any specs and based on what they have out so far, they are gonna have to beef it up quite a bit to compete with what is already out there.

I got a chance to play with the alpine w505, kenwood 8120 and the pioneer z3. I have to say it was really a let down. I flipped through the main functions and messed around with the gps, but there was not ipod hooked up to them.
The kenwoods screen is garbage, it looks like it is 10 years old next to the alpine and pioneer. For how much the kenwood costs, I would not buy it because of the poor resolution. Every function is grainy, dim and just looks terrible in my opinion. Although the overall functionality is probably the best, I just cant get over the screen.
The kenwood definitly had the best gps interface. The alpine had the worst, and the navi interface was grainy and dim as well. The pioneer was in the middle, but had a clear, high resolution navi.
The alpine w505 screen is beautiful, it is clean and responsive. It is expensive and I would buy a seperate garmin instead of the alpine navi add on. The overall interface was easy and clear. The kenwood interface was about as intuitive. The pioneer had a really nice screen, but the interface was not as intuitive as the kenwood or alpine.
I am thinking about getting the alpine w505 with a garmin nuvi 780, unless the new kenwood and eclipse lines really step it up. It would be kind of nice to have ipod control and navi at the same time.
In my opinion the technology is way behind everything else. The components are severely overpriced, for what they are. You can buy a mini notebook pc these days for under $500 that is far more advanced. Just think of what other electronics you can buy for the price of these screens.

I agree 100%. I'm done with prefabbed units. I'm in the midst of planning a carpc and will be using that for now on. The current state of off the shelf retail 2DIN units is pathetic. Once I get further in the planning of the project and have some more details I'll start a thread.
Anyone have the alpine w505 that can do a quick review of it? The features I care about most is the overall ease of the interface, the ease of navigating an ipod and the back up camera resolution.
I htink I am going to just get a garmin nuvi 780 for the navi and use the alpine as a headunit. Like I said before the navi on these screens is rediculous. The garmin nuvi's are far better in pretty much every way than any navi unit for an aftermarket screen.
