Best 2wd lift option for 4th Gen???

So been a few years since I've posted anything on these yota forums but a question for you T4R guys....
So I came across a really good deal icouldn't pass up on an 03 2wd SR5 4R, thing is I've always owed 4x4 so kinda wanna do something with it to give it some spunk and grit and preferably some 33's, but I will be travellin across country in it in a few month's with pcs'ing every 3 years.
So question is what's the best route to go with a lift on it?
Just some (3/2) strut/ coil spacers? if that route anyone got opinions on the poly and the steel ones?
Or should I try what everyone else is doing with the FJ coil exchanges?
The other thing is is that being here in So Cal and all the tools back in Good ole TN i'm gonna have to pay someone to do it for me...
Just looking for a decent route to go ??? (really only done and know 4x4 and SAS on Yota's and Chevy's)
This one's basically just gonna be a pavement pounder with some light to mild offroading.
Thanks in Advance for any and every response!

FJ springs are nice. Small amount of lift, usually about .5". But from what I've heard, and will hopefully soon know, is that they ride a lot better than stock. I've got that sitting in my trunk atm. I'm putting a daystar spacer on top of the front. Overall, though, you can use anything in the 03-09 4runner suspension options..

The options are pretty much all the same with the exception of 5" spindle lifts available for the 2wds. That and no worry about CV angles.

Check the suspension FAQ sticky at the top of the forum, all of the options are reviewed in depth there.

To sum it up spacers will net cheap lift, FJ coils improve the ride but don't lift a lot (but can be combined with spacers/adjustable struts to do so), other suspension systems are some combination of the two.

Welcome to the forum!

ok may not go with the FJ coils then. Just lookin for enough stance for some 33's and an AM front bumper w/ winch maybe. if anything i'd rather stiffen the ride up!

Thanks glad to talk to some yota ppl again.
And I read that I think that answered 85% of what I was wanting to know.
But when ya'll are saying the coils improve the ride how are ya'll defining "improve"?
I generally prefer I stiffer more truck like ride.
And yes one bitter but sweet thing about 2wd's is no CV's :fencing:

also with the 5" spindles would I not have to extend a feeewww lines and linkages...

Lift spindles and rear All-Pro 3.5" coils is what I would do. You'll sit nice and tall without the use of spacers. Maxtrac spindles are around $400.

I put the MaxTrac spindles on a buddy's 2wd FJ. Bilstein 5100s all around, plus MaxTrac rear springs...rides great and clears 285/70r17s with no cutting and no rubbing. Easy install, too.... I was gonna do the same, but I picked up a 4x4 4Runner instead.

The FJ springs WILL stiffen the ride, it won't ride like a truck unless you get some heavy OME springs front and rear. But the FJ springs stiffen the ride up enough to get rid of the excessive body roll around corners and the bouncy/boat-like ride over bumps and dips in the road.

Also a lot of members combine the FJ stuff with daystar 2.5/1.5 or Bilstein 5100s and rear spacers to get around 3-3.25"/1.6-2"

I'm not sure about the spindles, it seems like they would require extended lines but there are not a lot of members running them.

285s ("33s") get varying results, some people claim they clear em with this lift, others claim after bumpers (or trimming), other trimming, body mount chop, and body lift they still rub on occasion.

If you want a bumper and winch it's probably worth your time and money to go ahead and get the OME setup or an adjustable coil over. The ~150# of bumper and winch are going to make the FJ springs sag prematurely.
