Best 5th Gen TE Roof Rack?

After 15 Weeks the custom Roofrack in installed with a ladder, and gas/water storage to follow this week.

There is an issue though that I'd live to know if anyone else has had... My sunroof doesn't appear to function properly anymore, the rack doesn't appear to be touching the roof, however we did remove the shark antenna. Anyone have a similar issue?

No issues here with the full length Baja flat utility rack. Don't recall hearing anyone with a Gobi having issues either. Does it not function at all, sporadically, or not as intended? Always a possibility that when the shark fin was removed that another wire was nicked, cut, or shorted.
 
It still "works" but the controls no longer function as they should. When the sunroof slide control is toggled to close the glass, instead of holding it for a second and watching the sunroof close...

Now you need to hold the control throughout the cycle, and guess at when it's sealed because it doesn't stop. I could be closing the glass, continue to hold the control forward and the glass will immediately begin to open again until I release the control.

Have you tried the process in the manual to retrain the sunroof? It's on page 100 of mine:

If the moon roof closes but then re-opens slightly:
1) stop the vehicle
2) press and hold the "SLIDE (open/close)" switch in the close position. The moon roof will close, reopen and pause for approximately 10 seconds.* Then it will close again, tilt up and pause for approximately 1 second. Finally, it will tilt down, open and close.
3) Check to make sure that the moon roof is completely closed and then release the switch.

*If the switch is released after the above mentioned 10 second pause, automatic operation will be disabled. In that case, press and hold the "UP" or "DOWN" switch, and the moon roof will tilt up and pause for approximately 1 second. Then it will tilt down, open and close. Check to make sure that the moon roof is completely closed and then release the switch.

I'll give that a try. I'm slightly skeptical because in my experience so far, it won't stop or pause...

And I'll post pics too. I was just waiting for the rest to get installed before uploading. I did a time lapse of the rack installation and am planning on doing the same for the last three pieces.
 
Eagle: You're a genius. Don't know why I didn't try it first. All is well with the sunroof. Unfortunately the ladder measurements were off so Perkin's is going to try to install it today along with the windscreen, and a exterior storage unit that simply uses the hitch.

The gas/water storage piece we thought was finished but the small amount of play in the hitch itself leads to the attachment leads the whole piece leaning rather than staying level. Perkin's plans on fixing that with using a bolt and nut rather than a regular pin. Hopefully by mid-day this 16 week project will be done! :)

So far I'm very happy with the quality if the roof rack and it cost less for the custom construction than going with Gobi. Of course that may have something to do with not having any shipping costs to contend with. Perkin's was also awesome in responding to how far behind the project got by actually coming up to my home to get the final pieces installed personally.
 
How did you with Perkins Performance roof racks get ahold of the guy?! I talked to him the end of June and sent him money and a light bar to retrofit and now it is literally impossible to get a hold of him. And going to his shop is tough when they open at 10am...any ideas?

Ha - I was just about to start a thread for this same topic. I like to stand on top of my 4runner to take pics and i'm looking for a rack... would be nice to see a picture of this picture-taking set up.

I'd also like to see some pics from the 'photographer', though I realize that this thread is being resurrected from the dead. That being said...

What's the fascination with standing on a 4Runner's roof to take pictures? Presumably you're out in the sticks, what is this extra six feet of shooting height getting you? Have you ever been near a vehicle in any amount of wind? Unless you're shooting handheld, any sort of vehicle with suspension is the worst-possible platform for shooting with a tripod (as one above noted).

If the OP is shooting with his iPhone, then I take it all back...
