Best Bike Hitch Rack?

If we're posting bike pr0n, here's my 1Up. The black ano didn't hold up that well, but my rack lives on the 4R full-time.

I picked up the Kuat Pivot so that I can swing the rack fully out of the way to get access to the back. It works great but does extend the rack further out and so it further sacrifices departure angle clearance.

i am looking at Kuat Sherpa its a solid rack and does not weight that much.

Racks are expensive! May as well spend a little more to get a lot more. Security is a MUST IMO, both rack and bike.

I've only ever purchased one bike rack, ~ 10 years ago, the Kuat NV.

Looks good, works great, built in cable lock.

Two years after I got it I complained to Kuat that the pivot was getting loose. They were "very sorry, but we changed our design so we can't send replacement parts"... They sent me a whole new rack instead!

I got rear ended 3 years ago (no bikes attached). I sent pictures to Kuat of the damage and they sent me parts to repair the damage, totally free. It was a couple of through-bolts and an arm to hold a rear tire.

If it get's stolen or something, which is less likely since it came with a locking hitch pin (same key as the cable lock), I would take a closer look at 1-Up racks, otherwise I'm a Kuat fan for life.

My 1up-usa 4 bike rack hasn't let me down and gets my vote.

I have had my 1UP rack for about 4 years or so. Best rack IMO. Buy it in black, it wasn't an option when I got mine.

For security I have the hitch lock and then I run a nice cable and lock around the bike and hitch when I am traveling. I never leave the bike on over night or untended for too long. Locks are for honest people. If someone wants it, they will get it.

I use my bike rack very often for my mountain bike. I have the Thule T2. and I see a LOT of racks and My friends have a verity of bike racks. And we ( My Biking Buddys & I ) agree the 1UP USA is probably one of if not the best bike rack out there.

That will most likely be "the best"

Planning to get one sometime this year myself. Super low weight and easy to carry and tucks in nicely to the vehicle body, better than any other rack on the market.

YES YES!!! This is a must even if the Rack comes with locking cables. Get an extra cable or 2 and a Hefty U-Lock. I use 2 cables. 1 from the Hitch Eye.( Or around the hitch where they would have to unbolt the whole hitch to get It off.) And the other Longer cable I run through both wheels and both Peddles then Use the U-Lock to secure it all to the frame of the bike.

And it's basically the same price as every other big name brand bike rack on the market that has similar features.

Yes the T2 Is Heavy!! Thats another reason My Buddys & I agree that the 1UP USA rack is better than the Thule T2.

When you have the second bike attachment and fold it up, does it interfere with the back up camera?

I used to have a KUAT but they aren't great for longer wheelbase bikes (it'd hang too far off of one side).

Now I have the 1Up single with the second bike attachment (easily bolts on) for when the girl rides with me. You can stagger the bikes by as much as you need so they don't touch too.

It's better quality in real life (it doesn't look as much like an erector set in person). It holds the bike a bunch more secure than I thought it would. Holds it by the tires instead of the the frame or any other clamping.

no rattles, nothing has ever come loose, no excess movement.

Folds up and semi-out of the way when empty and folds backwards with the bike on it to open the rear hatch. You can move it closer into the hitch reciever to get the bike closer to the back of the truck too.

kinda spendy, but well worth every penny.

ya know...... I haven't ever had it folded up with both racks on it.

I recently purchased this bike rack at REI. The 20% member coupon made this a no brainer price wise. My favorite feature is the ball bearing that you can tighten to ensure a solid snug fit in the hitch. The carrier is really light at ~30lbs which is helpful when I take it on and off to store in the trunk. Even though the rack comes with a cable lock and hitch lock I don't trust the Chicago scumbags scurrying around at night.

The rack adjusts/tilts out away from the trunk so you can open the tailgate if bikes are hooked up. Of course, rack also folds up vertically when you don't have bikes to carry. Bikes I've transported feel very secure. No rattling or bouncing around while scooting around 70+ mph.

OP, what kind of bicycles are you looking to carry? For road bikes a Kuat Sherpa is fantastic option. But if you're transporting MTBs then Kuat NV or 1UP is the better call.

We will be hauling 2 hard tail MTBs.

Went from a Thule T2 to a 1UP and love it. Better looking, lighter, higher clearance, less rattle, with one carrier only it’ll fold up below the line of the rear door, and I like that it holds both tires from above.

The great thing about the 4R is all the cargo space. If I’m just taking one bike, which is the majority of the time, I just put my road or MTB inside. Lays down with plenty of room.
