I use to carry the ILBE pack, until the Marine Corps switched over to new packs which is kind of like a Alice pack with a plastic frame. Theizzardking you were right on how we hate wearing the pack while we are with body armor. The shoulder strap would just slip off your shoulder and cut your circulation while wearing your flak jacket.
Pros- lots of room to pack your gear in, good back support, good cushioning and overall a awesome pack.
Cons- The waist strap always seemed to cut into my waist, some buckles seemed to break real easily, and the extra gear you were told to hump with lol.

I'd like to get an Arc'teyrx jacket but they can be hard to find locally. I've got a Helly Hansen shell that I've had for almost ten years and it's a phenomenal piece of gear.
For car camping stoves I've got that red Coleman with grill burner on the right and the stove type burner on the left, electric ignition, easy to clean. Love that thing.

I always carry a mini survival kit when I go out on trips, there are tons of youtube videos on what to put in them. I used the contents of this guy's kit, but I added a more comprehensive first aid kit since my wife is a nurse and has access to steri-strips, sutures, gauze, local anesthetic, etc. WARNING: he's REALLY annoying.
Best advice I've gotten is to have separate clothes and a tent for camping w/ and w/o a fire. That way I'm not heartbroken when I burn a hole in my $30 fleece instead of my $250 insulated jacket.

oh and Osprey packs. I will never buy another brand. They have an unlimited lifetime guarantee. If you pack gets damaged or worn out, no matter how old, they will repair if they can, or send you a comparable pack from their current line. Outstanding customer service and packs that are absolutely bomber.
Also, if you guys sit at a computer at work all day like I do, and you are a gear junkie like I am, you need to have a browser tab permanently open to SteepandCheap. dont ask questions. just do it now.

Anyone else excited for camping season? Saw this thread dropped to page 2, so I had to bump. I like to build a custom kit depending on where I'm going, but you should ALWAYS have one of these. Even if its just a pouch with vinyl gloves, neosporin, a roll of gauze, and some tape. I've been in too many situations where we had even a minor injury, and found that nobody had any sort of med kit. sucks.

Steep and Cheap is awesome, just be prepared to buy things you never thought you needed because of the prices. HaHa.

They are worth every penny if you camp a lot. I bought my Tepui and have loved it. Even in close to 0 degree temps.
On my month long trip, I think the most useful things I had were these:

It opens so fast, it's unbelievable. And you have a comfy mattress and bed anywhere!
Not sure where you are located, but the reason I went with Tepui was because they have their warehouse located in Santa Cruz, I was able to drive down and pick it up and not worry about a shipping fee. The Tepui Kukenam, Camping Lab Medium, and a couple others are all made in the same factory in China so they are pretty much the same. But I think you are right, the Tepui was still a bit cheaper than the rest as well.

I purchased mine in a Group Buy- 30% off, which only ran me $695, so yes it was worth it. 7 minutes to set up (including rain flys), and 5 minutes to tear down. Nights spent were much more comfortable, as well as warm. Ventilation options were abundant and enjoyed some of the best night slept in the RTT.
With that said, I recently sold mine. I didn't like mounting it up top because of wind noise, MPG loss, body roll, etc. RTT is much more suited on top of a military-type utility trailer. That's just my opinion though. Nothing to take away from Cascade Vehicle Tents (CVT), as their customer service was some of the best I experienced. If you're looking for a RTT, look no further than CVT!

Indeed it was. It was one of the main, if not THE main, contributing factor on why I purchased the RTT. It was a blast for the year I had it! Certainly, the model was Mt. Bachelor, which is their entry level RTT.
