Seems to be the most popular are the Icon's. I have them and I really like them, but they cost $1200...
King, Sway-A-Way, Fox and Walker Evans all make comparable, rebuild-able, nitrogen charged coil-overs that are in about the same price range.

One thing you'll want to know before pulling the trigger is that Allpro uses a 550lb coil for their coilovers. Toytech uses a 600lb I believe or maybe a 620lb. King, Icon, etc use a 650lb coil. While I'm definitely no specialist I would say the Kings, Icon would allow you to throw a lot more weight on them without sacrificing performance (bumper, winch, etc.) Just something to think about. However, if you don't have plans for adding much weight, I would think the allpros would actually ride a little smoother unloaded.

That is incorrect. Toytec has two different set ups that will work. The one below is almost identical to the all pro's. It has a threaded shock body, and is a coil over, not a strut. And toytec has different spring rates to choose from. You can choose between 650 lbs, 600 lbs, and 500 lbs. They are out of stock on 550's.

Wrong- the Bilstein Coil Overs that come in the toytec Ultimate kit are the same as the All-Pro ones. I have the All-Pro ones, I have liked the way they work and they come with a 550# spring. The ones that come in the ultimate kit you have a choice between the 600# or 650# spring. Both are the 5100 threaded body with Eibach springs.
Correct- If you are looking at something other than the Ultimate kit or CO from the Ultimate kit than yes it is like the factory strut assembly.
ICON's and FOX are at the top along with W.E, King, SAW(entry level rebuildable) are all good but are also around the $1000-$1300

Snow, if I hadnt been interrupted by the phone call I would have beat you to it...
Personally after giving my business to All-Pro for the past 15 years and seeing the decline of customer service and bad attitudes towards 3rd gen runners I have a hard time refering people to them. The like the 1st gens because they work great and leaf sprung, the 4th gens because it is the same set-up at the FJ cruiser. I asked them several times to work with me on developing a full kit for my 3rd gen and said there wasnt a market and werent interested. This board proves otherwise and I think they missed out. They actually went so far as to tell me to get something else to wheel, that they do sell products for improved capability. This is after spending close to 20K(brother and I combined) in that time and refering numerous other people to them.
*** No complaints on All-Pro product performance, just the way they treat people and do business***
I would support Toytec since they are a sponsor of this board and have good customer service and want to develop and support our vehicles.

Tundra TRD coil mounted on 5100s. Have yet to hear anything negative about the setup.

Good point.
I'm guessing, even though it's not said, the OP wants an adjustable CO. Even the factory shock/coil combo is a coilover.
The big question is... What type of wheeling are you planing on doing?
Basic wheeling and crawling? The ToyTec COs are great.
Desert racing? I would go for one of the high end COs that have larger parts, can be rebuilt and taken apart and adjusted to your needs. Also if this is your type, you should seriously think about a long travel suspension kit.

However since i am here, I will weigh in.
What will you be using your truck for? Do you care if the shocks are rebuildable? Do you wheel you truck? You really need to answer those questions before you can say what the best coilover is because every one is designed for a different purpose.
Will you be jumping your truck in the desert and doing baja racing? If so, Go for the ICON, SAW 2.5's, King's, or the FOX's. Like t4r4life said, those are designed for that and will do the best in those situations.
For most offroading and DD duties. I would say that the Toytec, Allpro and OME's work really well. However, the OME's are not adjustable.
Having the ability to rebuild the shock in the coilover is great . But you must remember that rebuildable shock will require maintenance where a non- rebuildable shock is usually maintenance free.
Personally, I love my ToyTec CO's. Good ride, really durable, and built around a Bilstein. They also hold up well in the dunes...

Huh? Um, no. By definition, the front suspension of our our IFS 4Runner's uses struts.
From an ASE college textbook:
"A strut and a shock do the same thing, but the strut has mounts for a spring around it, and a shock is only bolted to the frame and lower control arm."
That's not a complete description, but you get the point. You can take a shock off the suspension, and you simply lose your dampening. If you remove a strut, the suspension is incomplete.

Incorrect. 3rd gen 4runners use a "coilover shock".
Below is the description of a strut
"An automotive suspension strut combines the primary function of a shock absorber (as a damper), with the ability to support sideways loads not along its axis of compression, somewhat similar to a sliding pillar suspension, thus eliminating the need for an upper suspension arm. This means that a strut must have a more rugged design, with mounting points near its middle for attachment of such loads."
4runner's have upper suspension arms. AKA UCA's. Just because a spring and a shock are combined does not make them a strut.

Well currently I'm in San Antonio Texas and have no idea where to wheel. I plan on moving home to Colorado sometime and go wheeling occasionally with my brother. Mostly daily driver with an occasional camping/exploring trip.

I can't argue the technicality of it, you are indeed correct. Although I would severely advise against it, I suppose you can remove the front shock/coil and still technically operate the vehicle. If you could not, then I would want to call the unit a strut.

Ok a little bit of hijacking here, but it might help the OP. What is the real advantage of Toytec coilovers vs. the TRD Tundra/5100 coilover. Other than the threaded body and pre-assembly (I assume) of the Toys, why spend the extra money for them? Does the threaded body really make the Toytecs THAT much easier to adjust? Maybe assembly of shock and coil costs quite a bit at a shop?
