Best D Ring Shackle?

So i searched and read a bunch of threads and i see Smittybilt come up and buy US made, but no clarity as to what is best or even what to get. I guess any Shackle is fine?

My two cents: Offroad companies making shackles is a joke. If you only care about color and looks then buy whatever you want.

If you're going to use these for recovery then go with a company that specializes in rigging supplies. Crosby is usa made and a good option. There is a reason factor 55 sells these.

I also recommend the bolt type shackles, not screw type for obvious safety reasons. Working in the wireless industry this is the preference.

Yes, definitely but i didn't like the non round sharper edges. Not that it would cut the strap but could cause more abrasion.

I can agree with that. Which is why i was puzzled at Amazon's choices. But finding a company that specializes in rigging supplies is not as easy as i thought. I guess Crosby is the only way to go on Amazon or on Factor 55 (thanks for that).

I've been seeing a lot of favorable reports on soft shackles as well. I haven't had a need to purchase new ones in some time but I'd give serious consideration to the soft ones if I was.

Good points. Since the crosby are not cheap for a few dollars more i can get "bow" or soft shackles.

The Crosby shackles are bow shackles the actual name is bow shackle (because of the shape) or I think anchor shackle

Soft shackles are just soft shackles

For an extra $10 or so the Gator-Jaw look like an option. They have one with a 125,000lb Breaking Strength for $175. lol

The "best" shackles in the world are made in the Netherlands by a company called VAN BEEST.

These are forged alloy (or mild steel if you prefer those), finite element tested and come with full test certification paperwork.

For example the 3/4 inch pin Super Shackle (alloy) I use is rated at 7 tons WLL, (not 4.5 like most) and carries a 5X safety rating (70K lbs). The 1 inch pin units are 9 ton WLL with a 5X safety rating (90K lbs).

They make their shackles primarily for the shipping and oil field industry.
But they come in the sizes we use as well for recovery.

The US made Crosby Shackles are equally as good, just more expensive generally.
Neither of these companies make "pretty colored" shackles. Hot dip zinc is the norm.

Pretty Chinese or ??? made shackles with no certification paperwork...no thanks! Just no way to know what you are getting. Not worth the risk.

I have used Crosby for a long time and they’ve all done a great job when needed. Haven’t heard a single negative thing about their quality from the users that I know who have used them extensively.
