Recommended Ignition Coils for 03 V8?

[locked up]

I was searching for a recommendation on replacement ignition coils but didn't see anything in the forum already. Did I search fail?

For the ignition coils, if I can save money over OEM and not sacrifice anything I'd love to do so.

I'm not looking for "cheap crap" that I can just get by on. I would like something reliable that will offer similar performance to stock for less if that exists.


OEM looks like about $150 per coil (1200!?)


I saw someone somewhere mentioned Densco. They are about $55 each:

I also found these for $200 ... I'm guessing they are garbage though?

Other suggestions?

While I am asking, if you have spark plug recommendations, I'm open to them as well.
For spark plugs ... are these motors picky like my last vehicle was?

Electronics are best being OEM or whoever makes the OEM parts, pretty sure Denso is a common supplier and safe if bought from a reputable place like Rock Auto. I'd pass on Amazon, too easy to get counterfeits. I would not replace them all at once as there isn't a need and you bring unknowns into the equation.

As for spark plugs, use what the manual or hood sticker says. NGK maybe?

Denso x2. My v8's came with denso plugs. I would recommend finding what yours came with and use them.

As was said, why replace all your coils? Can't imagine they need replacement, maybe one, but certainly not all. And go OEM, or Denso, you'll be assured of quality. Long term durability seems to be suspect on the big aftermarket names, MSD, Accel, etc.

What the others said. Denso is OEM. Pull all coils and inspect housing for cracks. Replace if found. Denso is about $60 each so a significant savings.

I had 1 go bad on mine recently. Maybe its not something that usually goes bad but if.you found 1 bad spark plug, do you replace just that 1 or do you replace all of them? I replaced all 8 coil packs on mine just for peace of mind at 225k. Denso all the way though, Summit Racing got them to me next day.

Spark plugs don't fail like coils do, replacing all of them at once could bring issues into the system and with that confusion. Generally best to replace this type of hardware one piece at a time. If you happen to have 2 junk coils out of 8 which you replaced all of, think of the pain this would bring trying to figure out what is going on. Possibility is lower with quality coils, way higher with aftermarket of course. Plus you're touching 8 connectors and bolts, here those bolts make break from being seized.
