You can get the magnet off amazon for like $15. Comes with self tapping screws that go through recessed holes, screws right into the plastic. I might have used different/shorter self tappers than the ones it came with to avoid going all the way through the console.

I mounted it at the perfect height that you can use the magnet to chamber a round by grabbing the grip, pushing down toward the bottom of the console then pulling it out, since the magnet holds only the slide. (on a polymer frame obviously) I never carry it chambered, so I kind of liked this little bonus.

Why carry with a round in the chamber? So you're gonna have time to pull something out of a console but not rack a round in the chamber?
I am more comfortable with an extra step between the weapon becoming hot. Just a safety thing.

This isn't a knock on you, but your logic isn't based on the reality of violence. I think that's one of the biggest issues I see with people that have guns but don't carry guns in shitty places for a living. Most people assume they will have the luxury of time. Furthermore, I personally don't want any extra steps to think or do. I like simple.
Sorry for the slightly off topic comment. I like the magnet idea, but I'd prefer to have the trigger covered so I'd probably just mount a holster in the same manner.
Either way, TRAIN. Practice drawing with an unloaded pistol. Make sure you're seatbelt is on, armrest closed, and it's dark outside. Then you'll know if it's a decent method of carry.

Using the console as my holster? Quick access? Hmmm. When I am in my vehicle, my tool
is in my pants...IWB, small lumbar pack (positioned just below my belly providing easy access), etc.. The best place for a personal protection device is on my person not in the console, in the glove box, under the dash, under the seat, in the purse (ladies), in the briefcase. If I have to exit the vehicle quickly and it is not on my person, I have two extra steps: one, I have to remember to retrieve it; two, I have to retrieve it. When it is on my person, I am ready to go to work.

I didnt say in console was optimum... I said caryring it in condition one was. so.... yes and no. If you are wearing a seatbelt drawing from any IWB or OWB is gonna be tough but I agree I wear my pistol. Should you get drug out of the vehicle you wont be using a pistol in a console.... kind of a double edged sword. Good. Will not put a tray on top as I ended up clipping a lot of items over the top rails.

Well said, an unloaded and un-chambered weapon is a paper weight, or club.
I no longer carry, and I am glad I no longer have to, but if I did, whether in a vehicle, on my side, or in my boot, it would be weapons hot, and I would go one further, I would not carry a weapon with a safety other then a grip.

Not exactly outfitting my truck for Afghanistan. I mostly have the thing for robbing liquor stores anyway so get off my case.:ak472:
As for the Ram mount, I used the Diamond 2 screw base and just used self tappers to mount it to the passenger side trim below the temp adjust.
It's ok on the highway, but in the dirt it oscillates slightly with a phone or tablet in it. Not very solid but serves it's purpose just fine.

I have many reasons for carrying my weapon the way that I do. the primary one being a gut wrenching tragic story involving a very close friend. But this is a thread about dash/console mounts. My bad for dropping the gun fanatic bait into my post anyway.
