Best engine to swap a 3.0 with?

Maybe not the best of ideas but still... you could (in simple terms) do a body lift and tilt the motor back enough to mount to the trans. or move the motor back in the compartment enough to clear the rad.(which involves, like you said to move the trans back a few inches which means shorting the drive shaft to the rear and elongating the front drive shaft. among other things...)

Or mount the radiator somewhere else like in the back of the truck and get long radiator hoses and electric fans...

Yes I know its a lot of work but with a welder and some time/cash anything is possible...and something different.

The 7MGE is a straight six, and a fairly common swap. Most guys modify the core support to make room, but I know at least one guy that did a 7MGE swap without cutting anywhere. It was damned tight against the firewall, but he made it work.

Ya that was the motor I had in mind when I posted the first time. But there is a wide variety of straight six engines out there(if you didn't care if it has a Toyota heart or not).

It would be different for sure and cool. Like I said with some ingenuity and some time/money anything is possible.
