Best place to buy a stock hitch receiver

I just purchased a 2008 SR5 V6 4x4 with the factory trailer hitch but no receiver included. I need to purchase a receiver for it for my landscaping trailer. The Reese receivers that I see at walmart are all too long and hit the spare tire (the toyota one is shorter). Anyone know where the best place is to get one cheap that fits the 2008 V6 SR5 hitch? I think you have it backwards.

The hitch part that's attached to the truck IS THE RECEIVER.

The trail hitch is what the ball attaches to. This then fits into the receiver.

Try U-Haul. Their hitches (and receivers) are made by draw-tite (which merged with Reese several years ago). They have a wide selection of hitch parts.

I have the same problem, I just bought a regular hitch and chopped enough off to make it fit. If you know someone who can do this, it's the easiest/cheapest way.

Tractor supply has some that fit. Just bought one from them for $29 ball included. It put the ball further from the bumper than I liked so I shortened it up with a hack saw and drilled another hole.

Sorry for confusing everyone! Yes. The receiver is on the vehicle. I'm just looking for the proper fitting ball mount. I don't know why Toyota could not have just used the standard size. Anyway, I'd rather not have to buy one and cut it but I guess that is the least expensive way. Thanks for the responses.

And if you have to re-drill the hole find someone that has a drill press, it's difficult to get the holes lined up by hand.

I chopped the end of mine off, didn't have to still a new hole. Drill press would definitely be a plus if you needed to though.

I also had some acme branded ones from jcwhitney that fit pretty good. No trimming needed. The reese one I got from tractor supply co didn't need trimming either..

I picked up my additional ball mounts from NAPA, and they let me try the fit before buying it. I was able to find what I needed, and with pushing the spare as far forward as possible, they fit without cutting.

I just got a Reese Towpower hitch last week from Wal-Mart and it fit perfectly. No cutting or drilling needed. It was $34 for "interlock" drawbar, ball and locking pin. The interlock drawbar is pretty cool. Much easier to remove and install the ball if you ever wanted to, and less worry about it spinning loose. My 4runner is basically stock height, and the 2 inch drop worked well for my car trailer.

It was $24 for the standard drawbar, ball and standard pin.

No problems with it hitting the spare, but I also have a Curt receiver so it might be a little further out than stock.

Correction. The part the OP is looking for is called the ball mount. The ball mount slides in to the receiver. The ball attaches to the ball mount. Combined it is called a hitch.

You can buy the factory ball mount off ebay for $30 or you can use any ball mount and take the spare tire off.

04 V6, with stock reciever and stock sized spare tire.

If someone wants my OEM draw bar (ball mount) let me know. Mine is brand new, never been used. You will just need the proper ball for it.

I have two hitches that fit my stock 4Runner. I bought one at Home Depot and one at NAPA. I think the one at Home Depot was cheaper.....
