Best Shocks

What are the best shocks to put on a basicly stock 4runner that are comfortable smooth riding off-road as well as on-road at a relative price daystar 2.5/1.5 may come in the near future :thanks: and look forward to what yall have to say

cheap good shocks: bilstein 5100

expensive nice shocks: fox, sway away (camburg), king, icon - these are all top level offroad shocks. pretty much comes down to personal preference between them, people will usually argue for the ones they bought.... I think camburg is a notch above, but I've always had their product on my trucks so....

I'd also recommend Overlandwarehouse Radflo's. They are rebuildable, specifically designed and valved for the 4Runner and OW is a site sponsor here. Do it right the first time and you won't be paying to redo it again.

For the price, you can't go wrong with Bilstein 5100's. I got mine from ORW on eBay for $350 including shipping (free). If I had the coin to spend right now I would've gone with a full coilover setup like the ones mentioned here. Also look at Old Man Emu stuff.

+1 OME $600 is not bad for a full set 2-2.5" lift.

The front Bilstein 5100's are adjustable from stock up to 2.25" (4 different settings). You'll have to get a spacer lift for the rear. If you want a mild lift or just to level it out, you can't go wrong with the FJ Cruiser coils / Bilstein 5100 setup. I have mine set on the 3rd notch (1.75") and it leveled it out perfectly. I have about 1/2" of front rake now. The FJC coils added about 1/2" of lift to the rear. When I get new tires I'm probably going to go up to the top level and get a rear spacer.

By the way, you can't go wrong with Bilstein products. The quality and performance is there. I had Bilstein HD's on my 3rd gen runner and Bilstein lowering coilovers on one of my old cars. Great stuff.

So I know this is a old thread but I’m curious to if this runner I’m looking to buy has 5100’s? I looked under the truck today and I noticed these shocks and can’t figure out if the are From the factory or if someone put theses on.

I'm very happy with my Old Man Emu shocks/struts/springs. My 4Runner handles and rides so much better compared to the old worn out factory setup it came with when I bought it used.

Thank you! I went to a service shop today and they said if they were put on when the truck was new they would need changing since the truck has 90k on it but that still seems like low miles to change shocks and struts. I will contact the owner to see when he put these on. Thank you for the input it’s much Appreciated

I need new front and rear shocks myself. The original are still on it and it’s a dirty sloppy rough ride atm. I am looking for max suspension lift to gain more clearance. Any ideas that won’t break the bank?
