Best Sounding Setup?

Ive got a single 10" sony xplod with about 650 wats going to it sitting in the back of my 4runner. I was wondering what a good sub and amp combo would be that could beat what i got. I spent about 150 for mine and it sounds ok but i need something thats going to bump louder. Maybe for around 300 or less without a box. Thanks

If all you care about is deep bumping bass, then go with a 12" or a double enclosure with 2 10" subs. If you care about high quality sound, you could go with some of the more expensive products, but if you're on a budget of $300, perhaps a JL product would suit you fine.

A very easy and good sounding way to go for you would be a sub/amp/box package from Best Buy. I have one of the single woofer kits in my wife's truck and it sounds pretty good. It would be a step up from what you have...

However, since you already have an amp you coudl go cheaper by just getting 2 higher quality subs and building yourself a box for them.

First off, I have not heard from experience, but from what lots of people say, Sony is junk.

Look into Resonant Engineering.

The RE SE is 600 watt rms for only $220. But no amp.
The RE RE is 175 watt rms for less than $100.

The Alphine Type-R is a hard hitting sub for only $120. 500 watt RMS too.


If you want loudness go with a ported box, it may be bigger but there is a huge difference. If you want sound quality go with a sealed enclosure.

Amplifer wise, you can go a lot of ways. Some cheap but godo brands are Kicker, Hifonics, JBl, and theres others.

PS, your sony xplod is getting no where near 650 watts. I'm assuming thats what they said your max wattage is. Look at RMS from now on.

First off, I have not heard from experience, but from what lots of people say, Sony is junk.

Does anybody know why people say this? I have heard lots of people say this, unable to back it up. As you can see from my signature, almost my whole system is Sony Xplod, and personally, I think it sound great, it wasnt that expensive, and havent had any problems with it. I am very familiar with other Sony products as all of our home stereo, walkmans etc are sony, and we have never had any problems at all with them. So whats the deal? Also, before I bought my system I did shop around (see http://www.carstereos101.com/) where I quote "Their sub woofers are probably one of the best lines on the market today.", "Sony's new line of car audio equipment, Xplod, has extremely great quality and is very cool-looking, which can improve the interior look of your car." and "Sony Xplod offers only premium quality for its very reasonable prices." This site contradicts what other people say, so why do people say they suck?

sony makes pretty good stuf but theres just soemting about everything they have... its all very canned feeling. like their video... tvs, digital cameras and camcorders [i have owned all of them] look good but just have a bland lifeless feeling and not alot of depth. speakers, headphones, amps [i have owned all of those too] sound the same way.

they are good for what htey are and they are good out of the box but thats about it. i think generally for the same price you can do alot better. except maybe for their camcorders and flat pannel tvs

obviously i dont have a problem with sony becuase i own alot of their stuff but to answer your question... when i want something exceptionally good, sony woudl be one of the last places i woudl look.

i think what happens is that one company tries to do too much and spreads itself thin. i am more of a fan of companies that just stick to what they are good at... and do whatever it is exceptionally and uncompromisingly well

There a lot more known and better brands in Car audio than Sony. I'm sure sony xplods can sound great to some persons ears, but for the audophiles people want different and better sounding brands.
